Available for auction is this 1970 Volkswagen Type 2 double-cab pickup finished in two-tone blue and white. The second generation of the Volkswagen Type 2, this 1970 example features the unique pickup configuration with a double-cab, wood bed slats, and individual folding bedsides. This Type 2 was acquired by the seller out of Oregon in 2014 and was subsequently treated to a restoration which was completed in 2016. Featuring new high-gloss paint, Porsche 911 bucket seats, a 12-volt electrical system, and a replacement 1,600cc air-cooled engine, this restored VW Type 2 pickup is now being offered for auction out of California.
During the restoration, this Type 2 was refinished in a classic two-tone blue and white combination with a subtle orange pinstripe separating the two primary colors. The bed was also replaced and lined with new wood slats as well as a steel diamond plate guard against the rear of the cab. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with photos documenting the restoration process. The 15″ steel wheels have been fitted with new chrome VW hubcaps and come dressed in Nexen SB-802 tires.
Inside, the cabin has been redone, lined with Dynamat insulation, and fitted with a pair of bucket seats sourced from a vintage Porsche 911 along with a rear bench seat upholstered in matching black vinyl. A vintage-style radio in the center dashboard provides sound through modern speakers mounted in the door panels. Other details include an EMPI shifter, leather steering wheel cover, pop-out front window vents, sliding rear windows, and a storage compartment under the rear bench seat containing the spare tire and jack. The right-rear indicator light is currently inoperable and the only functional ventilation is the defroster, however, all other features and accessories are said to be working properly including the gauges, radio, interior lights, high beams, auxiliary horn, wipers, and hazards.
Power comes from a replacement air-cooled 1,600cc flat-four engine that drives the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual transaxle. Restoration records show a complete overhaul of the brakes in 2014 as well as a new crankshaft seal, battery, exhaust gasket, right-rear axle assembly, belts, fluids, and filters. A new starter motor was also installed in 2020 along with new valve cover gaskets and a valve adjustment. Corresponding invoices can be found in the gallery.
This sale will include vintage service manuals, a collection of records, and a clean title Sporting a unique and versatile pickup configuration, this nicely restored Type 2 is just waiting to be driven and enjoyed by a new owner.

@MurderMammoth no damage at all. Can you reference specific photos or a time stamp in the walk around video so we can see what you are seeing?
@mohrimports Horrible question to ask, but is that body damage to the back of the pickup or is that how it’s made for when the tailgate swings down? Respectfully inquiring.
