As a longer-wheelbase counterpart of the iconic FJ40, this 1970 Toyota FJ43 Land Cruiser has been restored and upgraded for versatile use. Powered by a fully rebuilt 4.2-liter 2F inline-six engine paired with a 3-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case, it is refinished in Audi Nardo Grey over a black interior. It features a Weber carburetor with electric choke, Old Man Emu suspension lift, reupholstered seating, and 15” steel wheels wrapped in new BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires, and more. This meticulously restored FJ43 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California. Click here to view the previous PCARMARKET listing.
This two-door example represents the medium-wheelbase variant of Toyota’s FJ40. It has been refinished in Audi Nardo Grey as part of a comprehensive restoration, including new glass throughout. Exterior features include a removable body-color hardtop with a contrasting white roof, a steel front bumper, fold-down windshield, side mirrors, and fender-mounted turn signals. It rides on 15” steel wheels fitted with 33×10.5” BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, including a matching rear-mounted spare. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the cabin features reupholstered seating, including low-back front bucket seats in black vinyl and inward-facing rear bench seats in white vinyl, complemented by body-color metal surfaces. It has a new headliner, a glove box, and has been pre-wired for an audio system. All gauges and electronics are reported to be in proper working order.
Power comes from a 4.2-liter 2F inline-six that was rebuilt by Import Auto in Santa Barbara, with the crankshaft machined by Engine Tech Machine in Santa Maria, California. The rear or all four wheels are driven through a rebuilt 3-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. A new Weber carburetor with electric choke was installed, along with a new wiring harness by Cory Motors. It also manually locks front hubs and power-assisted brakes at all four corners.
This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a spare tire, a car cover, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “I originally built it for myself as a gear hauler and have other projects I am working on. I built this FJ43 Land Cruiser as the ultimate personal adventure rig-purpose-built to haul beach and hiking gear, tackle back roads, and venture wherever the trail leads. More than just a build, it's been a trusted companion for chasing sunsets, weekend escapes, and making the most of summer. From sandy shores to mountain trails to picnics at the beach or out in the country, it's ready for whatever the journey brings.

Hello, auction friends! With just two days remaining, we’re getting close to meeting the reserve. This FJ43 has been an absolute joy to build and turned out to be an even bigger head-turner than I imagined. I welcome any questions and would love for you to share this with fellow Land Cruiser enthusiasts. As I’m moving on to an exciting new Land Rover build, it’s time for this incredible rig to find its next home.
@thatnameisalreadycho I have invested just over $8,000 in the engine and approximately $5,000 in the transmission - have the paperwork. At this point, we’re likely in range. I’m motivated to sell this Land Cruiser—it will certainly be missed, as it’s truly a head-turner.
@ScottRulo I was your high offer at 33500 a minute back - are we there yet?
@thatnameisalreadycho Thank you for your bid. Should you have any questions or need further clarification, please feel free to reach out.
Bid in the amount of $35,000
@Tsquaredcanuck Installing heat and defrost in a Toyota Land Cruiser 40/43 isn’t very difficult. I’d just need to add the ductwork since it’s essentially a bolt-in kit, and the wiring harness is already in place.
100% understood and understandable given where you live. Out of curiosity, how involved is an installation (just heat and defrost, not AC)?
@Tsquaredcanuck Since I’m based in Santa Barbara and enjoy the great climate here, I never installed it, but I can easily add it for the buyer if they’d like.
Are the cabin heat and defrost operable?
@Tsquaredcanuck Yes, I have a complete set of seatbelts for both the front and rear, and I’ll have them installed for the buyer.
Gorgeous vehicle! Does it come with installed seat belts?
@ryderinbend thanks for the bid!
@hudd07 Yes, registration is California.
Well done and with CA plates!
Bid in the amount of $20,000

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have—nothing to hide here. Good luck with the auction!
