Built at the Porsche factory in Zuffenhausen, the 914/6 carried a flat-six engine derived from the 911 and saw a production run of only 3,338 examples between 1969 and 1972. This Lemon Yellow 1970 example was acquired by the owner’s father in 1973 and received an upgraded 2.0-liter engine that was rebuilt about 20k miles ago. An ideal project car for any air-cooled Porsche enthusiast, this 914/6 is now being offered for auction out of Oregon.
This 914/6 comes finished in Lemon (Canary) Yellow, a classic Porsche color offered on the 911 since 1966 which also became available on the 914 during the early 1970s. An aftermarket front bumper has been fitted and the nose section is said to have been professionally replaced following a minor accident in 1978. The front and rear fenders have been rolled to accommodate wider 15”x6” and 15”x8” Fuchs wheels. Some corrosion is present below the windshield and at the bottom of the front fenders. The rear decklid and passenger quarter panel have been partially prepped for paintwork and the seller recommends the full exterior be refinished. The floor pans are also believed to be original and show little to no traces of rust. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is trimmed in black leatherette upholstery with matching carpets and basketweave pattern inserts on the seat centers and dashboard. Compared to the four-cylinder models, the 914/6 features a traditional Porsche ignition lock on the left side of the steering column. An aftermarket three-spoke steering wheel has been equipped as well as an aftermarket radio which is believed to be inoperable. The seller states all gauges remain fully functional.
This 914/6 has been fitted with a 2.0-liter flat-six engine sourced from a 911T and mated to a replacement 5-speed manual transaxle borrowed from a 1974 example. The motor is said to have been rebuilt by the specialists at Schneider Autohaus about 20k miles ago and the seller states the car is currently in running and driving condition, although a tune-up and clutch service is recommended.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, some documentation, a spare tire, a jack, and a clean title.

@porsche9146 hI... any luck with the chassis # located in the rear truck?
Bid in the amount of $14,011
@tdskip to everyone looking at my Dad’s 914 6 and asking about the front clip. I’ve answered as much as I can in previous remarks. Thanks for your interest in my Dad’s “Much Loved” 914 6. It was his treasure.
Gentlemen – so we’re thinking for an accident damage resulted in a partial front clip replacement. It looks like it was cut forward of the inner front fenders? I don’t see any obvious seams on the inner fender surface but maybe on the vertical surface where the front latch is?
Hi... if you lift up the rear trunk carpet... can you verify the numbers embossed in the metal and their location (chassis #)?? Should be center, just located behind the lock mechanism or.... far right behind the tail light.
I owned a 1970. It had a fixed passenger seat and a moveable footrest. The seats in this car are from a later year 914. I am not sure what year the passenger seat changed and became the same design as the drivers seat.
Bid in the amount of $12,843
@blooms I can have someone meet you at the location of the Porsche in Bend OR. Just let me know when you can do it?
@Manpot the seat is not movable
@blooms yes, the vehicle is available for inspection.
I am confused..if this were a 1970 914..6 or 4..it would have a fixed passenger seat as part of the firewall. This has a moveable passenger seat that was after 1970..
I haven't heard back from you via contact seller - is the vehicle available for inspection and if so how would you like prospective buyers to communicate with you ?
thanks,
Can you post a picture of the VIN number on the top right inter fender?
This car looks like its had a hard front end crash damage.
It has had as front clip put on it from 75-76 front on it past the tank fire wall!
You can see the fuel pump hole and the bumper shock holes.
Whole front clip replaced for a "minor" accident? Probably a bit more than a little fender bender but that doesnt mean its a bad car. Repair done properly many years ago may be just fine. This isnt presented as a pristine numbers matching car in any event. People like drivers and these cars make for splendid fun
@porsche9146 Thanks, it's really quite simple to drill out the pop rivets and remove the panels to reveal the longs. You can then either reattach via new pop rivets or stainless steel screws. Time worth spent to assure the problem area. I am a 914 owner, possible bidder and have purchased a 997 here before, so I ask for purpose.
@RedBoxCar I’m going to have to get someone to do that for me. There is no rust, if that’s what you’re looking for.
Bid in the amount of $12,250
Please provide photos of the longitudinal rails behind the rocker panels, thanks in advance.
@BoxsterGT the tag on the pillar which is actually on the windshield has the proper 914 6 VIN#. The tag in the front compartment has the VIN# of the replacement car part. In other words the original 914 6 inner trunk is no longer with the car
Always nice to see an original Six; this one has stories to tell combined with a heart transplant; still would make a good hot-rod...!
Bid in the amount of $10,000
Where is the original Six serial number? On the aluminum tag and the A pillar?
Minor accident yet the entire front clip was replaced? Which tag is in the front trunk by the gas tank?
@BoxsterGT It’s from the donor vehicle
So does that mean there is no serial number stamped on the Front Rt inner fender,
or is it from the donor vehicle?
@BoxsterGT See information given- in 1978 the front clip was replaced with replacement clip
@BoxsterGT in 1978 the front clip was replaced with a replacement clip. That information is already stated
Please show us the VIN stamped on the chassis both front and rear.
