Now available for auction at no reserve is this 1970 Porsche 914 finished in Black over a black leatherette interior. Introduced at the Frankfurt International Automobile Exhibition as a joint venture between Porsche and Volkswagen, the 914 was offered as an entry-level mid-engine sports car powered by an air-cooled horizontally opposed engine. This early C-Series 1970 example is said to have spent much of its life in California and has been refurbished with new paint, an ignition system overhaul, a rebuild of the 5-speed gearbox, and upgraded Weber carburetors for the 1.7L flat-four engine. Accompanied by records dating back to the 1990s, this 914 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Tennessee.
This 914 was refinished in the current Black color several years ago and comes decorated with removable Brumos #59 graphics. The original color of the car was Ivory, and factory equipment includes chrome-plated bumpers, a removable roof panel, and vinyl-covered sail panels. Some cracking in the paint is noted as well as a few dings in the rear bumper, detailed images are provided in the gallery. A salvage title was issued by the state of California over 20 years ago following what the seller reports to have been damage to the lower rear valence. The seller adds the metalwork remains highly original with no evidence of rust repair. The factory 15” wheels are painted black and dressed in a set of Sumitomo tires.
Inside, this 914 sports black leatherette upholstery with matching carpets, aluminum sill plates, and basketweave pattern inserts. An upgraded Sony radio has been installed along with auxiliary gauges beneath the dashboard including a VDO Quartz clock, voltmeter, and oil temperature dial. The upholstery on the dashboard has come loose and several cracks are present.
Power comes from an air-cooled 1.7L flat-four engine featuring upgraded Weber 44IDF carburetors. The rear wheels are driven through a rebuilt 5-speed manual transmission. Recent service items are said to include new valve cover gaskets, an oil and filter change, and replacement of the ignition coil, spark plugs, and distributor cap/rotor.
This sale will include the original owner's manual, maintenance booklet, jack, spare tire, and a salvage California title. Offered without reserve, this early Porsche 914 is not to be missed.

Is the engine displacement still 1.7? Weber 44's and cyl. head temp. gauge seem like over kill if it is.

@badboybuses This car is a 1970 model year, the typo in the listing has been corrected.
The lead statement mentions this being a 1970 and then an early 1975. This might be a bit confusing to some. Just saying.
@BoxsterGT the passenger seat is a 1970 only feature and being listed as a 1.7 makes me think the 1975 is a typo.
