This 1970 Porsche 911E is the subject of a custom Safari-style restoration carried out by Bob Diers between 2018 and 2021, with over $70,000 invested into the build. It features an overhauled suspension with Bilstein dampers, a roof rack, off-road tires, houndstooth-trimmed bucket seats, an RS-style steering wheel, and a replacement 2.2-liter flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle. This professionally built Safari-inspired 911 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Arizona.
This 911E was acquired as a project car in 2018 and has been refurbished with a new windshield, nose panel, and some bodywork. The bumpers, decklid, and trunk lid have been refinished in red and the older black paint shows some patina and sanding marks. Accessories include yellow-tinted headlamps, fog lights and driving lights, mud flaps, a roof rack, a roof-mounted spare wheel, vintage rally-style decals, a chrome rear bumper bar, a driver’s side mirror, and gold rear model lettering. The car rides 15” ATS-style wheels finished in gold with Pirelli Scorpion rally tires measuring 195/70 in front and 205/65 in the rear.
The cabin has been refurbished with a new headliner, carpeting, dashboard, and door panels along with reupholstered houndstooth-trimmed seats by GTS Classics. Other accessories include an Alcantara-wrapped RS-style steering wheel, a wood 917-style shift knob, leather door straps, new seatbelts and sun visors, and rebuilt VDO instrument gauges.
Power comes from a fuel-injected 2.2-liter flat-six engine which has been overhauled and fitted with a Stomski Racing chain tensioner and new heat exchangers. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The mechanical fuel injection pump was rebuilt during the restoration along with the brake master cylinder and calipers. The fuel tank was also replaced along with the front suspension pan, suspension bushings and hardware, sway bars, rear wheel bearings, axles, spring plates, brake hoses, rotors, and Bilstein dampers. The seller adds that the spark plugs were replaced in 2024.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

@Mholla101 No problem at all. We have confirmed that all functions are working properly. The only item that doesn’t appear to be functioning is the reverse lights, which is not uncommon on these cars.
Also, our mechanic inspected the wiring, and he confirmed that it old wiring that is not being used for anything currently.

@youngmotorcars
Got it, thanks for clarifying so quickly! Are you able to confirm all headlights, wipers, horn, emergency lights etc. are all functioning? Electrical gremlins are tough to deal with. I know it’s late but would like to confirm nothing extraordinary out of whack.
@Mholla101 We just showed our mechanic photos of the wire, and most likely it is for an interior light or a wire that was disconnected and subsequently fell down. Either way, we will ensure that it is addressed prior the next owner taking possession.
@youngmotorcars
What is the yellow wiring dangling under the driver side? See photos 146, 157, 164, 168. Also in the drive video. This wasn’t present in prior pictures of the car from March/November so am just curious. Thanks!
Sorry - just saw one was uploaded! Thanks.
@youngmotorcars
Following up to see if there is a cold start and/or driving video available. Thanks!

I have personally seen this car in person and it looks fantastic and it is meticulously well orchestrated. Having restored a couple of old 911s myself this car is truly a great project and mechanically safe vehicle. If you want to get into old 911 without spending the 70k-80k extra on top of buying an F-body then I think this is an amazing option! GLWS!

I saw and bid on this car at Broad Arrow during the Air|Water show in Costa mesa. Looked really great in person and only bid because no one else was bidding on the no reserve lot. It almost hammered for me at 45K but someone jumped in last second. (probably someone friendly with the seller) could be a great fun talking piece but seems it has been struggling to get the money at any auction.
@youngmotorcars
Very helpful, and noted on timing on the build. Thanks for the color.
Is the engine / transmission still being broken in? Do we have a cold start and/or drive video or am I just missing that?
Thanks again!
@Mholla101 The documentation that we have in the engine rebuild consists of what was noted in the build records and in the build photos uploaded to the auction gallery. The engine was completed approximately in 2021.
We found that 1 plug had fouled, so we opted to replace all of them.
We will add photos of the Fuchs wheels. The tires would need to be replaced if the next owner desired to use the wheels, as it is the rubber that predated the build.
Couple of questions -
Is there documentation/pictures of the engine overhaul that was done? If so recent (do we know when completed?) why were spark plugs just replaced this year?
Are there pics of the Fuchs wheels and are tires included with those or do they just have the tires that were on them before the swap to the gold wheels?
I don’t see a roll bar, which is curious. Stock seats also an interesting choice for a rally vehicle. Seems like the restoration is a mix between function and style, unable to fully commit. I’d be inclined to lower the suspension, swap out the wheels and do a repaint to the silver for a nice 911e. Regardless, cool build!
GLWTS!
Looking at the service records, would love to live near a place with a $100 shop rate. Where I’m at it’s $200-250. Cool car, but I’d drop it and turn it into more of an outlaw.
Bid in the amount of $25,000
@youngmotorcars Thank you for confirming!
@doobooloo Yes, the car does come with the the extra set of Fuchs wheels.
@DaveWadf We were not apart of any acquisition through Bring a Trailer. We acquired the car at a later date. We are a dealer located in Scottsdale, AZ, so this beauty is now one of our Porsches in inventory that we are offering for sale. We look forward to it finding its forever home, as it is a very fun and engaging 911E build.

@youngmotorcars Your concurrent website listing mentions the set of extra Fuchs wheels, but this auction description does not, could you kindly confirm whether the extra Fuchs will be included with the auction? Thank you.

What was paid for it has nothing to do with its value today plus or minus of that number. I get the internet makes everyone be able to research and find everything but no foul here. It is what I call an auction car with all the do dads that hit all the marks but it appears nicely done. $100k for a distinctive early 911 is not out of line.
Great little car nd love the pics!!!!
apologies, 109k .
love the car...it was for sale at 99k , no way. Come on pleaaaseee . We'll see reserve.
@youngmotorcars Does this car come with the extra set of Fuchs wheels that the original BaT listing sold with 9 months ago? Thanks!
This car just sold 9 months ago on BAT. Why reselling so quickly?
