Offered for auction, is an incredibly well-presented 1970 911E Targa with long-term ownership history. After rolling off of the assembly line in October of 1969, this 911E became the 216thexample in a total run of only 923 vehicles. This car had been ordered on behalf of a prominent family in Mexico City and would remain in their care until they relocated to California in 2005. Having only been driven 15,934 miles during the family’s fifty years of ownership, this Targa is now being offered for auction in an impeccably clean and original state by a dealer in southern California.
Upon arrival in the United States, this Targa was fully repainted in its original Light Ivory color. According to the seller, this vehicle stands in near-perfect condition with the only exterior flaws noted as a small “paint star” on the front bonnet and some minor degradation on the rear rubber bumperettes. Any imperfections present throughout this car will be depicted in the image gallery. This particular example features factory tinted class as one of the two factory options that were outfitted. Having seen minimal road use, it would be a safe guess that this 911E Targa is one of the best preserved examples currently on the market.
Inside, this Targa is fitted with a gorgeous period-correct red leather interior. The seller states that this interior has undergone recent refurbishment including new seat covers and currently shows to be in excellent condition. The only flaw indicated is a small wear spot on the driver’s side carpet. A Blaupunkt Frankfurt Stereo System is specified on this car’s build sheet, however, the car was delivered without it (factory error) and was subsequently fitted with a Becker Mexico Cassette Stereo System by the selling dealer. All electrical systems and accessories are reportedly fully functional at this time and there are no issues that need to be addressed according to the seller.
Powering this Targa is a 2.2L naturally aspirated 6-cylinder engine that sends about 155hp to the rear wheels by way of a 915 5-speed manual transmission. The mechanical fuel injection (MFI) system used on the 911E not only allowed for more precise control and distribution of the air/fuel mixture, but helped to reduce emissions. The 911E also featured a new high-voltage ignition system that addressed the spark plug fouling issues that plagued earlier generations. All services and maintenance are reportedly up to date with the only non-original component being a new Pertronix ignition system. This 911E remains fully number’s matching and accident-free.
Included in the sale of this immaculate and highly original 911E Targa will be comprehensive maintenance records, a complete toolkit, jack, original owner’s manuals, warranty card and other official documentation that had come with the car. This vehicle is offered with a clean California title and stands ready for prompt worldwide delivery. Having been cherished by a single family since new, this is a tremendous opportunity to acquire what is likely one of the better examples on the market today. Do not miss out on this highly original, collector-grade 911E Targa.

@patricioroel Buenos Dias Patricioroel,
Yes, I have all of the records from the moment the car was ordered and brought to Mexico, plus the plates and all registration records going back to new and up to the present including all of the new California registration records and of course current title and registration.
I can email them to you if you use the contact seller button. The family the owns this car does not want them posted on line as the documents obviously have all of their private information.
How else can I assist?
Gracias,
Bill Noon
do you still have all te paperwork to return the car to Mexico?
Bid in the amount of $10,000
Good day everyone, during inspections today, I was able to get some additional photos with the Targa Top deployed. They will be posted shortly for everyone to see.
During today's inspections, two things were noted. The front bonnet shocks are weak. When cold they won't hold the hood up for more than a few seconds. After being in the sun, they work fine. Both should be replaced. The radio plays on the FM band and the signal seeking switch works perfectly but on the AM band there is mostly static with a few faint stations from Mexico coming in but not very clearly.
When I took the inspection photos last week the car had 15,934 miles. More miles are being added during inspections but not probably more than 20 will be added before the sale ends.
Best of luck to everyone with this auction,
Bill

This particular 1970 911E Targa was a normal North American Market model completed in October of 1969. It was sequentially the 216th example completed on a total production run of just 923 vehicles. The car was ordered new by Inter-Continental Motors Corp., in San Antonio, Texas. After completion it was delivered in December of 1970 via Porsche-Audi Division of Volkswagen South Central Distributors Inc., of San Antonio, Texas.
The original order had been placed on behalf of a prominent Mexico City family that had a large collection of specialty automobiles. This was the third Porsche the family had ordered and purchased and the 2nd from Inter-Continental Motors Corp.
The car was ordered with just two options, Tinted Glass and a Blaupunkt Frankfurt Stereo System. For some reason, the car was instead completed and delivered new with a Becker Mexico Cassette Radio System rather than the Blaupunkt System. There are no Porsche records on why the different radio was installed from what was originally ordered. The original invoice for the vehicle only notes a dealer charge of $195 for an “AM-FM Radio.” The car was prepared for delivery to Mexico City and it was formally invoiced on January 15th, 1970 for a total price of $9,082. As it was an export vehicle, no license or registration fees were collected by the selling dealer.
HISTORY CONTINUED:
The car was then shipped overland and registered as a new vehicle on Mexico City plates “258 AUM.” The car would remain with the original family that purchased it new from 1970 until January of 2005, when the family relocated and moved to Rancho Santa Fe, California, bringing all of their cars with them. This Porsche was then re-registered on California Historic Vehicle plates, “814W.” The car would remain with them in California until just a few days ago when they contacted our company to sell this and several of their other vehicles.
During the family’s 50 years of uninterrupted ownership, this Porsche was driven a total of just 15,934 miles. During their ownership, after arriving in the States, it was given a comprehensive repaint in the original color and the interior was partially refurbished, which included new seat covers and attention to other areas. The only non-original item on the car after completion by Porsche was the fitting of a Petronix ignition system.
The car is completely matching numbers, accident free and all part numbers, casting code and date coded items correspond to the original assembly of the car by Porsche.
All services are completely current and up to date. The original alternator has also just been complete serviced and overhauled.
This vehicle is sold with a comprehensive file of the original records from new as well as complete tools, jack, books, manuals, warranty card and other Porsche delivery documents that accompanied the car when it was sold new.
Please contact me if I can assist further in anyway with inspections, test drives and world-wide delivery of this very special Porsche.
Kind regards always,
Bill Noon
@Mercyhealth Good day Mercyhealth,
Tomorrow I will take some additional photos with the top deployed and in place. I have shared privately by email scans of the records and receipts going back to new but the family has just received another large file from a relative in Mexico City and I will scan and share those as well by email with anyone interested. The family only asks that these records not be posted or shared publicly on line as it has their private contact details.
All interested parties are encouraged to use the "CONTACT SELLER" button feature as it is easiest to be able to share and email specific information and the full history of this vehicle.
I will post the additional photos of the top deployed and try and post as best possible here in the comment section the car's full history.
Have a great weekend,
Bill Noon
Please place pictures with the roof on. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t see any displayed.
@dno76 Good afternoon dno76,
Many thanks for your comments and questions. If you use the contact seller button, I will email you complete history and records for this Porsche. The family did not want them posted on-line as they have all their personal information and contact details.
I have continuous registration records from new with no gaps, both while the car was in the Mexico and thereafter in the States.
As for the Targa bar, It is not chrome but brushed aluminum or stainless steel, I can't quite recall but can check on Monday. The car was rarely driven during the entire time with the family that bought it new. They had a large fleet of collectible and classic cars, none of which were used on a regular basis. All of the cars in the family's collection were routinely cared for and carefully maintained. After many years of contact polishing and detailing, the paint was simply worn thin and faded out despite the car's very low milage and the decision was made when the car arrived in the States to have this and other of the family's Porsches completely repainted.
The targa top was essentially never on the car and the seats faded out badly from UV light. Thomas Precosias from Thomas's Auto Upholstery here in San Diego was enlisted to address interior wear and fading issues as needed.
Please let me know how else I can assist and the very best luck with this auction,
Bill Noon
Thank you very kindly Vintageguru for your bid. Please feel free to use the contact seller button if I can assist further in anyway with inspections and test drives. I can also provide shipping quotes as needed if that helps.
Best of luck with the auction,
Bill Noon
Any way to verify mileage is accurate? If mileage is accurate at 16k, do you know why the owner re-sprayed the car and re-upholstered the interior? The hood badge is a later G body badge. Also, never seen a chrome/polished Targa bar? Any additional info would be helpful
Bid in the amount of $8,911
@Bill_Noon Thank you Bill. This looks to be a very nice car.
@GregPappas Good morning Greg,
Photos 66 and 79-82 show the Targa Top and the storage bag. It has only been fitted on the car a few times by the family and essentially new in all regards as they just did not use it. I will check and see if the family has a photo of it actually deployed and on the car and if not, next week I can take some for you and others to see.
Can I assist with anything else?
Kind regards,
Bill Noon
Noticed there are no pictures of the top. Is it in perfect shape as well?
Thanks
Correct gearbox type number and individual serial number photos have now been posted!
Cheers,
Bill
Just noticed that I made a mistake when I uploaded the photos. The gearbox number photos is of another Porsche that will be selling shortly on this site.
The correct gearbox number is 710.2778. I will provide PCARMARKET now with a photos of the gearbox type and individual number.
Here are all the pertinent numbers for this Porsche and again this is a completely matching number example.
