This 1970 Porsche 911T Coupe was acquired by the seller at Rennsport Reunion VI in 2018 from its previous owner who redid the interior and installed custom 911R-style bodywork. The car has since been fitted with a rebuilt European-spec 3.0-liter 911SC engine featuring Weber 40 IDA3C carburetors, PMO intakes, ARP head studs, Turbo valve covers, hydraulic chain tensioners, MSD ignition, and a 911R-style exhaust. It has also been equipped with Bilstein shocks, aluminum tailing arms, welded strut tower supports, and a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle with a Tarett Engineering shift coupler. Having been enjoyed by the seller over the past several years on local rallies and car shows, PCA events, weekend drives, and Porsche gatherings including Luftgekühlt in October 2023, this 911T is now being offered for auction out of Tennessee.
This 911T was refurbished and modified under prior ownership with rust repairs and the installation of fiberglass bodywork including 911R-style bumpers, fenders, doors, a hood, and a rear decklid. The car is finished in white and decorated with custom racing graphics. Accessories include Cibie hood lights, a side number light, louvered rear quarter windows, a Plexiglas rear window, a polished driver’s side mirror, and 911R-style taillights, markers, and door handles. It rides on 15” Fuchs wheels that were mounted with Michelin TB-15 vintage racing tires in 2019. The seller notes that the paint shows some patina and all the graphics are removable decals. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, this 911T features a black interior that has been stripped of carpeting and fitted with a pair of GT 911R bucket seats, a roll bar, Schroth safety harnesses, Heuer rally timers, and 911R-style door panels with slide-up windows. Other accessories include a leather dashboard, rubber floor mats, a map light, auxiliary switches for the exterior lights, additional VDO oil pressure and voltage gauges, and custom gauges by John Bell including a 911R 10k-rpm tachometer and 250-kph speedometer. A Speedpilot rally computer has also been installed but is not connected due to the electronic pickup on the 915 transaxle. The new speedometer has not yet been connected, although all other gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.
Power comes from a 3.0-liter flat-six engine which was sourced from European-spec 1979 Porsche 911SC and rebuilt with ARP head studs, Turbo lower valve covers, hydraulic Carrera chain tensioners, a 911R-stye exhaust with headers, MSD ignition, and Italian Weber 40 IDA3C carburetors with PMO intakes. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle with a Tarett Engineering shift coupler. The car also features aluminum trailing arms, Bilstein shocks, a welded front strut brace, and rear strut tower supports. Service completed under the seller’s ownership includes a new fuel tank and center-mounted filler neck, a new fuel pump, valve cover gaskets, distributor cap & rotor, a new ignition coil, spark plugs, batteries, a new alternator, an oil and filter change, and rebuilt carburetors with new intake gaskets.
This sale will include some documentation, a spare tire, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This has been a very fun car to have in the stable. It is a unique outlaw/hotrod that is fun for mountain drives and rallies. Always a crowd-pleaser at events. A true visceral driving experience.”

@105DOX so I would guess it weighs around 2000. Similar cars are in the 1800 range but have more lightweight parts than this does.
Thanks!
Miles
@Somer Yes perfect driving roads around here!
Speedo is actually new. It works but is not hooked up. I bought the car with a 74 915 that has a mechanical pickup for the speedometer. Ended up installing a 76 915 that has the electric pickup and I never ran the wires for the Speedo. Honestly not a hard thing to do. This is a personal car and my projects usually get pushed to the side for the shop cars.
@105DOX not really sure. Lots of lightweight panels. I would compare it to similar competition cars. Have to do some searching on that one
Sigh, I sure miss blasting around East Tennessee roads. Many a mile on two wheels there.
Has the speedo always been in-op?
Any idea what the car weights?
Thanks!

Nice R. Sure this car is why the word enthusiast was invented. Nicely done tribute. Miles you auctions and presentation of your vehicles has made me created an account on PCAR.
What is missing in a collection that comprises an 84 Safari, Dakar, 992 GT3 manual, 964 T, 930 T, and an RS America? This car. I have now watched this driving video a number of times. This car should probably spend some times in the beautiful Utah canyons. Just saying, a guy can dream right?

@robbylou The car is really solid and free of rust issues. But bodywork performed was not to show car level. The area in those photos I chaulk up to substandard repair. When I bought the car, the paint was described to me as a "racecar paintjob" And I think that really best describes it. Solid and presentable but far from perfect. Hope this helps. Thanks! Miles
Picture 177 is awesome and 180 abside the 911L 68 TransAm is so cool. Thank you for posting these.
Very nice build. Am sure she will be of a great drive in Le Mans while some track days.
Elle est très belle.

Can you comment on the bodywork around the windshield in pictures 39 and 49? Thanks

@KCnSF When I purchased the car it had a 2.7 and early 915. The 2.7 suffered some damage when in Amelia Island a few years back. The new engine and gearbox were sourced from a local PCA members car that had caught fire (no damage to the engine). The engine had recently been rebuilt by one of the local Porsche legends in town. It was rebuilt for the most part to be a street motor. Has Carrera tensioners, ARP head studs, turbo valve covers, and a mild cam. I do not have dyno numbers. It is a strong and torquey motor but nothing wild. It is a 79 so has the big port heads and a little bump on compression compared to other SC engines. The carbs were sourced from race shop that had closed doors in the Atlanta area. They are Italian made and very tight. One of the best set of Weber 40s I have ever had.
The engine pops right away. Carbs are well tuned. Even when cold (video, car had been sitting for 1 week and we had 40 degree temp) it warms up easily. Some oil leaks underneath but the valve covers have new gaskets as does the sump. Recently installed new plugs, plug wires, alternator, and cap/rotor.
@KCnSF
Hi All! I want to check in as the seller here.
This car has been great fun over the years I have had it. Lots of character and incredibly fun to drive. We are blessed to live right in the heart of the Southern Appalachian Mountains and the roads are some of the best to drive in the world. This car has blasted around them on numerous weekend drives and events. The car is very raw...not your ordinary hotrod or R-gruppe. Lots of attention to detail.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or requests. Ill be uploading more photos throughout the week.
I can assist in shipping worldwide. Please contact me for a quote.
Thanks!

Can you expand in the engine a bit please. Has it been dyno'd? Compression numbers? Estimated miles on the motor?
I saw your car at Amelia right after COVID. I love that car. Wish I had the funds to buy that car!!!! Love the Steve McQueen on it as an Automotive artist this car brings me to a happy place brother. Enjoy the moments … Michael Ledwitz. Congratulations to the future owner. You will have a BEAST ON YOUR HANDS…:)
