PCARMARKET is proud to present for auction this V-Code 1970 Plymouth Superbird from the esteemed Newport Car Museum. Built to comply with 1970 NASCAR regulations, the B-body platform homologation Superbird was built in sufficient numbers to qualify for racing on NASCARs two high-speed ovals, Daytona and Talladega- notable Superbird race car drivers include Richard Petty and Pete Hamilton. Beautifully restored prior to the owner’s acquisition in 2017, this Superbird is offered by its current owner out of Portsmouth, RI.
Finished from the factory in “Hi Impact” FY1 Lemon Twist paint with a “V19” black vinyl roof, the exterior of this Superbird is said to present exceedingly well and free of modifications, as can be seen in the image gallery. A few key external features of this Superbird include an iconic rear wing of aluminum, nose cone and cartoon Superbird graphics. Original 15” Rallye wheels come wrapped in belted Goodyear Polyglas GT tires.
This Superbird is appointed in a full black vinyl interior. It retains its stock appearance including AM Radio, bucket seats, center console and “Beep-Beep” horn. All gauges, electronics and accessories are reported to be fully functional.
This Superbird is equipped with an exceedingly desirable “V-code” 440ci V8 with 3 2-bbrl Holley carburetors making up the, “Six Barrel” set up. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 3-Speed 727 Torqueflite Automatic transmission and a 8 ¾”, 3.55:1 ratio rear differential. The believed numbers matching drivetrain (stampings can be viewed in the image gallery) is said to up-to-date on service with a very recent oil change.
The sale of this iconic muscle car will include a spare tire, tire iron, and a clear title. One of the most important American muscle cars, this Superbird will sure turn heads quicker than just about anything else on the road.
