Available for auction is this 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 finished in Yellow over a black interior. Ford introduced the original Mustang Boss model in order to homologate the specially developed Small Block V8 engine for competition in the SCCA’s Trans-Am road racing series. In addition to its 302ci engine, the Boss also received an upgraded suspension and braking system. A lifelong California car, this three-owner 1970 example underwent a complete nut and bolt restoration about 10 years ago with the goal of creating an MCA Gold concours show car. The restoration process was carried out at 60k miles and is said to have used all original Mustang parts except for an upgraded camshaft and Edelbrock mufflers. With less than 5k miles traveled since the completion of the restoration, this outstanding Mustang Boss 302 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Massachusetts.
This Boss 302 comes finished in Yellow and features signature “hockey stick” stripes, a front spoiler lip, shaker hood scoop, and rear window louvers. As a 1970 model, this Mustang also received a restyled front grille and headlights flanked by inlet vents on either side. All the original metal bodywork is said to have been retained during the restoration as there were no signs of rust throughout the body, additional images are provided in the photo gallery. This Mustang rides on a set of Magnum 500–style 15″ wheels which come dressed in a set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires showing date codes from 2018.
Inside, the cabin features door panels and high-backed front bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl along with a matching dashboard and a Hurst shifter. The cabin is said to have been completely refurbished during the restoration using new-old-stock Mustang parts including the hood-mounted tachometer.
This Mustang carries a G-Code 302ci Small Block V8 engine featuring a special thin-wall block casting, 4-bolt mains, screw-in freeze plugs, and Cleveland-style heads with a canted valve design. In stock configuration, this engine can produce as much as 290 HP. The engine in this example was fully rebuilt during the restoration and equipped with upgraded cams and Edelbrock mufflers. The rear wheels are driven by way of a rebuilt and numbers-matching 4-speed manual transmission. Other performance-oriented features of the Boss 302 include a lower ride height, front disc brakes, larger sway bars, heavy-duty spindles, and reinforced shock towers. Some service records are provided for reference in the gallery along with images of the undercarriage.
This sale will include service invoices, the original warranty booklet, and a clean title. One of the most recognizable muscle cars ever made and a true icon of American automotive history, this Mustang Boss 302 would make a beautiful addition to any car collection.

@BostonMotorsports1 Thank you for your reply and I understand you represent the owner & have presented the car as it was described.
However, the next owner - who is now paying a good premium - is left holding the bag.
Especially with the RS Lightweight, which was intended to be a significantly more expensive car (it didn't sell).
I just think @pcarmarket could do more homework before presenting these cars. It seems the folks in the comments are presenting the history on these cars better than the sellers.
@porschebf We've sold 20 cars on pcarmarket and bought 10 without issue.
We have the car listed for a 3rd party, and that was stated clearly from the beginning. If they want to pull the ad, by all means. But this shouldnt hurt pcar or our reputation, as they, just like us, are just presenting the car as it was described.
@pcarmarket - Could you comment on this situation as a professional ? This is not the first time a car with questionable origin has been presented - most recently it was an RS Lightweight. I am sorry to say but this hurts PCar's reputation imo.

The links for Barrett Jackson just posted were AFTER the car was restored not before. The current seller added a shaker hood ( not on build sheet) and a new steering wheel. But nearly all the restoration appears to be completed prior to the current owners purchase. Just trying to set the record straight. We started out with statements of numbers matching and it’s a replacement engine. No one is really sure what is currently original , excepting the chassis.

@mar2ney I spoke with the previous owner. The engine is an original boss 302 date coded block that was built at the same time that the car was being built. Sorry for the confusion! The guy that restored the car was GS Johnson, an MCA judge. This car is actually signed by Parnelli Jones on the sun visor, as he had done some work for Parnelli Jones as well. Pcar is adding that.
Ive reached out to the owner for clarity. But I am going off of the info he has given me.
What I can say, is that the restoration work done to this car is incredible. We’ve had multiple interested parties come see the car and have been impressed by the car and it’s condition. We are confident the car will sell
Ok this is helpful. So I assume two owners ago bought this car with a replacement engine at at open auction where people could actually inspect the numbers. Then , subsequently, the current owner found the original engine ( somewhere) and installed it? Since the engine matters in value, would I assume the Barrett Jackson seller purposely stated that the engine was a replacement ( knowing it was original ) just to lower the price he would otherwise receive?. Scratching my head on this one. Again, the engine matters at some price point

If you search the VIN it shows a previous sale on Barrett Jackson and states a replacement engine, date coded. Is this an accurate description of the engine ?

The hood wasn’t shut the whole way. Happy to provide a new pic if that helps.
@cllint930 maybe a hinge adjustment, pic 11 shows the hood pins in, but the chrome hood trim doesn't line up with the chrome trim around the headlights while pic 12 shows the profile, and the rear of the hood is elevated as you noted in the other pics.
If the hood isn't all the way shut, should be simple for the seller to provide an updated image.
I took a look, it appears the hood was not totally shut.

This car is in as new condition, and is currently on consignment with us at Boston MotorSports! Based on what we can see, it would probably take over $125k to replicate. It truly is like right out of the showroom in 1970!
