Introduced in 1970 as the North American counterpart to the original Japanese-market Nissan Fairlady Z, the Datsun 240Z features iconic styling and a 2.4-liter L24 inline-six engine. This Series I 1970 Datsun 240Z is a two-seater 4-speed example that has been registered in Southern California with only two owners from new. It has been refinished in red and showcases desirable early-model bodywork, a well-preserved original black vinyl interior, and an extensively documented service history. This timeless Japanese sports car is now being offered for auction with its original blue-and-gold California license plates.
This early Series I 240Z can be distinguished from later models by its slim chrome bumpers, horizontal vents below the rear window, and chrome 240Z badges on the rear pillars. The car is said to have been refinished many years ago and remains rust-free, retaining its original floorboards. Equipment includes recessed headlamps, front driving lights, dual polished mirrors, chrome body trim, a rear fender-mounted antenna, vertically stacked dual exhaust tips, and aftermarket slotted wheels dressed in BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires.
The black vinyl interior features well-preserved original bucket seats and an uncracked original dashboard. Accessories include a black three-spoke steering wheel, a wood gear knob, a locking glovebox, a heater, a digital clock, a Sony cassette stereo, and a dashboard cover. The car's 5-digit odometer is said to have rolled over once before and the true mileage is approximately 106k.
Rated at 151 HP and 146 lb.-ft of torque, the 2.4-liter L24 inline-six engine features dual side-draft carburetors and a manual choke. It delivers power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The car is equipped with power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drums, independent suspension, a front stabilizer bar, and rack-and-pinion steering. The seller indicates a comprehensive file of service records is included in the sale and there was no expense spared on the vehicle’s preventative maintenance.
This sale will include original California license plates, service records, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “The car has a presentable older repaint and the floorboards and trunk area are all remarkably completely original, solid, and rust-free. The car has its original factory black interior and front seats which are also in remarkably good and mostly all original condition throughout with its original uncracked dash. The engine is extremely strong, and the transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears, a simply lovely car to drive.”

@Scuprsr looks to be a dash cap. With this being a dealer selling the car, I would take the claims of the “original un-cracked dash” with a grain of salt.

Are the rub strips attached adhesively or with screws of blind rivets? Specifically, have holes been drilled into the body panels?
@JC or, just read what was already written.
This is a beauty. What does the steering wheel look like under the cover?
@ronwangu third paragraph states “The car's 5-digit odometer is said to have rolled over once before and the true mileage is approximately 106k”
@ronwangu , use your common sense, it’s been refinished….
Not sure if this was addressed already ; Is the actual mileage 8,200 0r 108,200?
Beautiful car and the colour looks great. I do hope this does well.

Oil pressure is excellent and compression check can be done to confirm good compression.
If the car is sold to a California resident we as licensed CA dealers will be responsible for collecting CA sales tax, DMV license and registration fees and registering the car for you.
Thanks for your interest
Oil pressure looks a bit low, any compression test? Any idea where the oil leak is coming from? Has registration been sent in? Looks to expire this month.
