Available for auction is this 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z28/RS finished in Le Mans Blue over a blue vinyl interior. This 1970 example comes equipped with a 350ci LT-1 V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, power steering, power-assisted brakes, and the RS package. This Z28/RS was previously restored and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas having been recently serviced with all new fluids and spark plugs.

For 1970, the redesigned Camaro featured a new fastback roofline, distinctive quad-tail lights like those found on the Corvette, and a host of other styling changes from the previous model. This example is finished in Le Mans Blue with black over-the-top stripes and is equipped with Rally Sport (RS) package which added a unique split front bumper, a distinctive grille surround, and additional parking lights. It rides on a set of 15″ Z28 wheels finished in gray with Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires. The car is said to have been fully restored at some point under prior ownership, additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is upholstered in blue vinyl with matching carpets and door panels. Features include an optional center console, a Hurst shifter, a radio, and manual crank windows. The seller confirms all gauges and accessories remain fully functional.

Power comes from a Corvette-derived 350ci LT-1 V8 with four-barrel carburetors. The rear wheels are driven by way of a Muncie M-21 4-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear end with 3.73 gears. Power-assisted brakes and steering come equipped from the factory and the seller states recent service included new spark plugs, all new fluids, and a flush of the gas tank.

This sale will include a clean title.

Please don't misconstrue my statement that the lifters need adjustment. The car sounds great and should be a lopey idle with this style of cam. I agree just drive it for awhile. It is an excellent looking car and certainly a really nice specimen. I love it and to show I love it!!!!!!!

@Handsofstone ..... I dont think the lifters need to be adjusted , they seem to be fine , this car has been sitting too long and just needs to be driven. Here is another short running video

I can say from experience that the car is idling about where it should be with a stock 1970 solid lifter camshaft. Maybe the carb needs a slight adjustment for idle mixture and idle speed. If the lifters are adjusted too tight of a clearance it will effect idle quality and how it runs, too loose and you will hear the rockers clanking, so there is a fine balance. The lash can be set either cold or hot, but at different specs. I use to set mine when it was cold as it was easier to do on the engine. I think the lash was the same for the intake and exhaust valves. I think it was approximately 28 thousands of an inch setting with standard feeler gauges. You hear of the famed 30/30 cam and that I believe was where the lash was set on that solid lifter cam.

It appears to be the original trans as the numbers on the case match the VIN, so I believe it is original. I believe that a M-22 has (2) drain plugs on the side and the M-20 and M-21 have one. The M-22 has straight cut gears that were stronger I believe but did whine a bit. I had a 70 1/2 Z28 and a 71 Z28. With new gear oil in the trans and maybe someone put in some heavier gear oil in it maybe that would cover up the whine a bit. The solid lifters are not that hard to adjust and really don't need to be done as often as people think. You can definitely hear when the clearances are loose on them and when they are too tight the car wont run quite right. Regardless of the trans this is a very nice car IMO as a previously owner of the same year.

@tgkeller ..... After trying to research this I am more confused than ever , however it doesnt seem to have the whining noise associated with a M22 , I believe its a M21. What you see as a C is a 0

  • tgkeller (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Are you certain this Z28 has an M21 transmission rather than the M22? My understanding is '70 Z28s could be ordered with the M20, M21 or M22. I can't tell from the VIN tag, but A= M20, B=M21 and C=M22. I think I'm seeing a 'C'. Thanks.

Running rough, I don’t think so. That’s the symphonic resonance of a high duration cam and proprietary to a 70.5 Z28. Probably needs a tune and lifters adjusted but otherwise looks pretty sweet for what appears to be a nice Z. I’m exercising tremendous self restraint in not bidding on this.
