Often referred to as the VW Bus or Camper, the Volkswagen Westfalia is an iconic vehicle celebrated for its distinctive design and versatility. It combines the practicality of a van with the comforts of a camper, making it a beloved choice for road trips and outdoor adventures. This 1969 example is powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and is finished in Pearl White over a beige and mustard interior. It features a pop-top roof, a fold-out bed, a fold-out table with dining seats, storage cabinets, curtains, and more. This Type 2 Westfalia is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This “Bay Window” camper showcases classic VW styling with round headlights, large windows, and a signature pop-top roof. Finished in Pearl White, it features corner turn signals, a passenger-side sliding door, chrome side mirrors, and white-finished bumpers. It rides on polished 15” wheels with Volkswagen-branded hubcaps and new Continental VancoFourSeason tires. The seller notes previous repainting on the nose and rear lower corners, detailed images are available in the gallery.

The interior features front seats upholstered in textured beige vinyl and a pop-up roof with a canvas tent, offering expanded standing room and additional sleeping quarters. The right-side cargo door opens to a rear cabin with mustard vinyl bench seats that fold flat for a sleeping surface. Amenities include a folding table, storage compartments, new plaid window curtains, black rubber mats in the front cabin, and vinyl flooring in the rear section. The bunk and child’s cot have been replaced with new materials. A stainless-steel sink, faucet, and water tank are included in the sale but not installed. While the speedometer is slightly inaccurate, all other gauges and electronics are reported to be in working order.

Power comes from a rear-mounted air-cooled 1.6-liter flat-four engine, which delivers a factory-rated 47 HP to the rear wheels through a 4-speed transmission. The engine is said to have been rebuilt less than 9k miles ago, and the vehicle features independent front suspension and rear torsion bar suspension for a smooth ride, while disk brakes on the front with drum brakes at the rear wheels facilitate upgraded stopping power

This sale will include the owner’s manual, an instruction manual, a spare tire, a tire jack, a set of factory 14” wheels mounted in Summit tires, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I'd like to reiterate. Your next adventure starts here. This incredibly clean and rust-free 1969 Type 2 Westfalia will get you anywhere, on any adventure you want. Drives great with a new motor with less than 9k miles on it. Must see and drive to appreciate. And, I am crazy for selling this beauty as it is the best non-fully restored early Bay Window out there, what am I thinking? It’s been a great daily driver! Happy bidding!”

@skulig Judging by the log book up to around the early 2000's from new I'd say it has 218K but looking underneath and with the mostly original interior you wouldn't know that. It's been really well taken care of, possibly garaged. Even inside the engine bay is very clean.

What do you think the actual mileage is right now?

@Amasdaha Also what's not mentioned but the front has a disc brake set up which has been really nice!

@Amasdaha Heater is stock, nothing extra installed. Thought about getting the Vuvec diesel system that fits inside the rear seat but it doesn't get that cold in SoCal. I greased the suspension a few months ago, added new Koni's all around, the best shocks for busses, and replaced the steering damper. Ball joints are effective and in working order but the boots are cracked. Overall it drives nice and actually handles better with the 15x5 1/2" Porsche 356 wheels. Rear spring plate could be raised a notch but it drives down the hi way comfortably so I haven't touched it.

I'll post a video of driving and you can see how it soaks up speed bumps without even budging or lifting of the body.

What kind of heater set up do you have? And when is the last time the suspension was updated?

  • FlyingWolf (seller) 4 months, 3 weeksago

Hi all, I've added images with the original 14" VW wheels with new Summit tires. Thanks for looking!
