Available for auction is this 1969 Volkswagen Beetle finished in Diamond Blue over a black vinyl interior. With a production run spanning over 60 years, the Beetle presents distinctive styling and is recognized as one of the most culturally-significant automobiles of all time. This 1969 example was originally delivered by Truman Motors of El Cajon, California, where it is believed to have remained registered before being acquired by the seller in April of 2022. In 2020, the car received a comprehensive overhaul including fresh paint and upholstery, a rebuilt drivetrain, and new suspension, brakes, and tires. Having been serviced in preparation for this sale, this Beetle is now being offered for auction out of Idaho.

In 2021, this Beetle underwent a comprehensive cosmetic restoration during which time the glass and fenders were removed, the body was stripped, and dents were removed before the car was refinished in its original Diamond Blue (L50B) paint color. New window, door, and body seals were installed along with new running board rubber and front and rear chrome bumpers from Wolfsburg West. It rides on a set of 15” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and Nexen SB-802 tires from 2020.

For the 1969 model year, the Beetle received several updates to its cabin including a steering lock, day/night rearview mirrors, built-in headrests, a padded dashboard, a fuel filler door release, and relocated hot air vents. The cabin of this example was overhauled and its seats were refurbished with new coconut padding and black vinyl upholstery which extends to the door and side panels. New square-pile carpeting covers the floors and a new headliner and dashboard pad have been installed. Accessories include a Volkswagen Sapphire XV radio, new three-point seat belts, a heater, floor mats, and a two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring. The seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional.

Power comes from an air-cooled 1,600cc flat-four cylinder engine equipped with a dual-relief case and larger pistons than stock. The engine was replaced in 2009 and was overhauled around 2020 with a rebuilt carburetor, replacement throttle cable, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, and an ignition condenser. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transaxle. The seller notes that the transition shifts well and the clutch was rebuilt at approximately 46k miles. Under previous ownership, the shocks, ball joints, axle tube seals, and brake components are said to have been replaced. In preparation for this sale, a service was performed which included a clutch inspection, oil and filter change, and replacement of the rubber fuel line between the body and carburetor.

This sale will include a clean title.
