We are pleased to present this 1969 Porsche 911S Sunroof Coupe finished in the rare combination of Ossi Blue over a Red leather interior.  One of the most sought-after air-cooled 911's ever built, the 1969 911S was debuted with a longer wheelbase and Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection (MFI) which provided for a significant increase in performance.  Equipped with a rare factory sunroof, this Italian-delivery example is said to have been imported by its previous owner to the United States within the last 10 years before undergoing some considerable maintenance items.  This beautifully presented 1969 911S is now being offered by its seller in New Jersey accompanied by original books and tools, a collection of records, a Kardex, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

Only offered between the model years 1968-1969, the rare Ossi Blue (6803) paint on this example is said to be in excellent overall condition except for a few minor blemishes as depicted in the photo gallery.  This top-of-the-line 911 S-version can be distinguished by its anodized rocker panels, wider rubber moldings, and gold rear lettering.  Fog lights and factory pop-out rear quarter windows are equipped and the original date-coded Fuchs wheels ride on brand-new period-style Michelin XWX tires.

The Red leather interior is said to be in excellent, highly original condition.  The seats were previously reupholstered, and the headliner was recently replaced along with the resealing of the factory sunroof. The original Blaupunkt "Bremen" radio is said to be fully functional as well as all other gauges and accessories.  The 5-digit odometer currently displays 17,592 kilometers and the total mileage is reported to be approximately 117k kilometers (72k miles).

This 911S carries its original 2.0 L flat-six engine which features Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection (MFI).  170 HP is distributed among the rear wheels through a number’s matching 5-speed 901 manual transmission.  Koni shock absorbers are equipped and service records provided in the photo gallery show meticulous upkeep under previous ownership with a major overhaul of the engine, gearbox, suspension, and braking systems in 2017.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, the original books, tools, and spare tire, service records, a Kardex, an Italian Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.  With its impeccable factory configuration and coveted 2.0 L MFI engine, this Ossi Blue 911S makes the perfect choice for any classic Porsche aficionado.

Apologize if I missed it but where is the invoice for the engine rebuild?

Automobile Associates is one of the top Porsche shops in the world but Scott should be taken out behind the woodshed and beat like a red-headed foster kid for not painting and plating suspension parts while they were off.

  • eblais (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@Ambassador-Auto Thanks that is helpful. Maybe a close up of the rear plate assembly.

  • Ambassador-Auto (seller) 3 years, 6 monthsago

To all. A correction that has been brought to my attention. The sides of the seats are vinyl from the factory as leather is not indicated on the Kardex. A small oversight in the listing.

  • Ambassador-Auto (seller) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@beh911 I too have been told by 2 of the Porsche experts that I consult with that they had no concerns with these compression number for this engine and age and that the consistency that shows was just as important.

  • Ambassador-Auto (seller) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@eblais Thanks for the question. The car has a nice aluminum bracket that utilizes the 2 holes that are drilled in the rear valance. This would easily accept a bracket for a US plate. However there are also 2 tabs that hang down on each side of the Italian plate so you can mount a US plate right on top of the Italian plate so you can keep that on the car if you like. I hope that helps.

  • blucille 3 years, 7 monthsago

@beh911 - perhaps you’ve heard of the early 911 S registry? A quick scan of previous threads of 2.0, 1969 911 S models, posts on the registry seem to indicate 170 psi should be expected on a healthy 2.0 S motor

My 1969 S was detuned by the original owner when the car was nearly new, (he was a can am driver, and would occasionally track the car, but with the fuel crisis, he wanted to be sure he could fuel up with on pump gas anywhere he went). It still had compression numbers higher than this car. 150-160 psi on all cylinders - 40 years after he installed lower compression pistons.

  • eblais (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Is the rear valance drilled with odd holes for the Italian plate or does it have the standard 911 license plate bracket for use with a US plate?

  • beh911 3 years, 7 monthsago

@blucille : In my unsolicited opinion, those compression numbers are in line with a 9.9CR 2.0S engine of that age, especially in conjunction with the leak down.
I don't see major engine work in receipts, other than chasing a case half leak which is most likely the nose bearing seal, probably hard as a diamond at this point.

  • blucille 3 years, 7 monthsago

long-time owner of an Ossi blue 1969 911S, chassis #119301075. It seems to me those compression numbers are lower than I'd expect, any explanation? Perhaps lower compression pistons and cylinders were chosen during the rebuild?

@geb217 thanks for the question. Yes Ossi Blue/Red are the original colors. The Kardex, which is in the gallery of photos verifies that as well. The respray was done prior to my ownership and the previous owner, who I know, so unfortunately I don’t have the answer of when it was done.

  • geb217 (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@ambassador-auto I am assuming Ossi blue/red are the original colors? When was last paint/respray?
    Thx

To all. The pictures have been uploaded by PCar Market. Thank you.

  • beh911 3 years, 7 monthsago

I translated the Kardex for someone that asked over on Early S Reg. Thought I would share it here.
This is an incredibly cool car, with a rare set of options and color combo. One could easily see it in period Italian Alps, owned by someone who wanted this car to reflect their personal preferences and lifestyle. Aside from tracking down the auxiliary gas heater and getting the front fog lights sorted out, one could have a fun time tracking down some of the rare racks and luggage to make this car as it left the factory. No affiliation, just enthusiastic:

    9437 - Loudspeaker
    9320 - Electric sunroof
9276 - Auxiliary gas heater (Webasto)
9343 - White Fog lights on bumper (not below)
9248/9249 - Canvas suitcase pair, tartan* (not certain on this one)
9401 - Roof Luggage rack with 4 leather straps
9402 - Roof ski rack with 8 leather straps
    9406 - Leather suitcase, black
9408 - Leather suitcase, black, for top of rear seats (pair)
9410 - Shirt case, black, for top of rear seats
9413 - Traveling bag, leather, black
    9433 - Electric antenna
    9435 - Radio suppression kit
9337 - White fog lights, under bumper

@LiveFromNY Your welcome. As we discussed on the phone, it was before. Thanks again.

  • LiveFromNY (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@Ambassador-Auto Thanks for your quick reply. One more question, echoing @BrentF, was the referenced "overhaul of the engine" completed before or after the questionable leakdown test of 11/16/2016?

  • Ambassador-Auto (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@LiveFromNY Thanks for your question regarding the paint blemishes. Those pictures were specifically included to show them. These are the only 2 notable blemishes. The one with the small little marks is on the passenger door and the small crack blemish is on the hood. I have taken pictures with a quarter present and uploaded them to PCar. I am sure they will be uploaded on Monday to give you size and clarity. Those are the only 2 notable blemishes. I hope that helps.

  • Ambassador-Auto (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

To all, I have uploaded additional pictures of the MFI pump and its part number to PCar. I am sure they will all be uploaded tomorrow. The pumps part number is Bosch 0408 126 005. In referencing the part number, it all appears to be from a 1969 Porsche 911 S. I have also attached a link to one for sale in Hemmings with this part number and the add also shows that it is from a 1969 Porsche 911 S. I hope that brings clarification to any questions. thanks. https://www.hemmings.com/parts/item/Air-Intake--Fuel-Delivery/Fuel-Injection/Porsche-911-Bosch-MFI-Mechanical-Injection-Pump/19835.html

  • Ambassador-Auto (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@wbcor Good morning and thanks for your question. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer regarding the pump and who is correct on it being a 69 or a 72. I will try to confirm tomorrow with some experts. The only other thing that is mentioned lower in that service invoice, is that they did make a work around so it was able to be adjusted. The car currently starts, runs and idles perfectly now whether the engine is cold or warm, which seems like the item they were trying to correct and definitely accomplished it. I wish I had more to add on this topic.

Beautiful car. Thank you for the comprehensive information. Invoice from A A of Canton of 11/16/2016 indicates leak down test results of 8% for cylinder 6, 10% for cylinders 1, 2, 4, and 5 and 20% for cylinder 3. Cylinder 3 seems high. Has anything been done to address this?

  • wbcor (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

    Hi Beh911.
In the service records (pic 206) the service writer (mechanic?) identifies the MFI pump as a from a 1972 911E and that he tried to “work around the pump to no avail.”
I’m not sure the mechanic’s identification is correct or not, just asking the seller. Not trying to imply anything other than asking a question. It’s a special and interesting car.
    Regards,
    Bill C.

  • LiveFromNY (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

The description references some "minor blemishes" on the paint. I see evidence of paint damage in photos 165 and 166. Can the seller please describe this damage in more detail? Where are these blemishes located? What is the scale (a photo including a quarter would be helpful)? And are these the only significant paint issues?

  • dsdill 3 years, 7 monthsago

The 1969 911S is considered the epitome of 2 Liter 911 development. The production MFI introduced for the 1969 model year bears close resemblance to past Porsche racing cars. This is an excellent example showing a lot of originality. I think trunks and engine compartments painted to match exterior color started in 1973 model year. On earlier models, it is a common restoration error NOT to paint the trunk and engine compartment black. Also common, was for the original black in the engine compartment to wear away, suggesting it never was painted black. GLWS!

@wbcor Is there something in the water this weekend?
Where are all these posts coming from asking about incorrect details that are in and of themselves not accurate?
Sure looks like a dual solenoid 69 1 year only MFI pump to me.

  • wbcor (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

    Hello.
Beautiful car. Can you explain (if accurate) how a 1972 911E MFI pump ended-up in the car?
The pumps are very rare and very expensive.
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • TangerineT (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@LiveFromNY Agree, @Rocksterdibs is wrong on pretty much every point he tried to make. The car looks very correct. Better to know what you're talking about than make uneducated statements of fact. If I am not sure about something, I generally pose a question. This thing is gorgeous. GLWA.

  • LiveFromNY (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Is there any sort of award for the most incorrect information in a single post? If so, @Rocksterdibs should be considered a frontrunner.

  • Ambassador-Auto (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@Rocksterdibs I just have submitted pictures of the front pan from the inside as well as pictures of the floor boards under the front carpets. Thanks

  • Ambassador-Auto (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@Rocksterdibs , Hello and thanks for your information and opinion. I am not sure about any of the facts on your 911T, but through my research and the 3 experts that I have had look at this car, they all support what @Ringmeister has indicated in his comment's. They also have inspected the car and let me know that much of this car is a survivor and not been restored. Other than the paint, front seat covers and headliner, this car is very original in all other regards. With 3 experts that are all extremely over qualified in these cars, I would have to go with what they have indicted. 2 of them have worked on this car extensively not just looked it over so i give them the credibility they deserve. I have also owned many of these cars over the years, and I can tell you that there are many variation between all of them that you might think should be more consistent but are not and this has also been confirmed by them as well. There is nothing that indicates any changes to those compartments from original on this car. In addition, and as you indicated your were not clear, Sport Seats were an option on this car and were not standard equipment. The comfort seats were standard with option material choices as well.

  • Ringmeister (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@Rocksterdibs not calling you a liar, just misinformed and that your accusations are without merit. I have yet to see an original 69 with a painted trunk or engine compartment from the factory, maybe yours was a unicorn.

  • Rocksterdibs (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Not true, my first Porsche was a 1969 911T, bought it in1972 from a doctor in Connecticut, who bought it brand new, both the engine compartment and front trunk were beige just like the exterior color, before you call someone a liar get your facts straight, you can’t fool all the people all the time, but sport seats might have been an option, my 911s had them, and I had a few

  • Ringmeister (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@Rocksterdibs I don’t know where you are getting your information from but I think you must be confusing this 1969 911 with another year because all 69's had black engine and trunk compartments from the factory. The underside looks absolutely correct for the year as well. Also, S models did not all come with Sport Seats, they were an option and as you can see from this cars Kardex the seats it has are the correct ones. I don’t see anything written about a restoration, I see “highly original condition” mentioned and from the looks of it I have to agree.

  • Rocksterdibs (registered bidder) 3 years, 7 monthsago

Very nice driving car, but a few things are not correct, that I can see, inside front trunk should be painted same as exterior blue, also engine compartment should blue, big mistake, as should wheel wells and bottom of car, and under carpets should be blue but see no photo, someone went overboard with the under coating, really hurts this nice restoration, also 911S should have sport seats, this one doesn’t, something is not right with front pan, doesn’t make sense entire under pan is under coated but front pan is not, that’s where most have rust problem, no photos of front pan from inside trunk , doesn’t ad up, also spots of rust on floor from underneath can be seen, what a shame correct restoration was not done correctly on entire car, would have brought much higher price , but does sound nice, looks like a real nice driver, GLWTA

  • Katman90 3 years, 7 monthsago

What a beautiful car, & exceptional example! That & the high desirability of these it should do very well. A true driver's car. There's something to be said for how much so by the fact one was a favorite of actor/race driver Steve McQueen(who owned/raced many high performance cars). It was his go-to & kept it close thru his 3 marriages & left it to son Chad, who still enjoys it. In fact, he sold many higher performance cars (including one of the earliest 930 Turbos!) but always held onto his beloved 911S.
Steve's has a coveted grilled rear lower valance. I believe it was optional, but as I understand many having this lost it over the yrs. A tough question, but is it known if this originally had one? Also, I've seen references stating the '69 911S had 190 hp not the 170 PCARMARKET seems to claim for these. Maybe the seller or someone knowledgeable in these can chime in? Currently wishing I stashed more coin! GLWTA!
