Debuting in 1965 at the Paris and Frankfurt motor shows, the first-generation Opel GT featured mechanical components from the contemporary Opel Kadett B, with a sporty design resembling the 1968 Chevrolet Corvette. This non-running project vehicle was acquired by its long-time owner, who stored it in a barn for many years with the intention of restoring it. A 1.9-liter inline-four is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in gold over a black interior, this GT is an ideal candidate for restoration and is now being offered for auction at no reserve by its seller out of Connecticut.
The Opel GT boasts a sporty fastback roofline and distinctive 180-degree rotating pop-up headlights. It also has a low, wide stance, sharply sloped nose, and smooth curves. This example exhibits signs of wear, including corrosion, dents, scratches, and other imperfections across multiple panels and undercarriage. It rides on 13” steel wheels with dry-rotted tires that still hold air. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the black upholstery is torn and deteriorated. The seller mentions the carpet is in poor condition, and the functionality of the gauges, electronics, and accessories has not been confirmed.
Under the bonnet, a front mid-mounted non-running 1.9-liter inline-four engine drives the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. This vehicle presents an excellent restoration opportunity, with a collection of parts included in the sale.
This sale will include a bill of sale.
The seller would like you to know: “I will be happy to answer questions. This car will sell to the highest bidder. It needs to be sold.”
