Based on the Mercedes-Benz W111 sedan with its distinctive Heckflosse or “fintail” bodywork, the W112 Coupe and Cabriolet models were the brand's flagship two-door luxury cars from 1961 until 1971. This 1969 example is a 280SE Cabriolet finished in Grey Beige over maroon leather upholstery. It features a fuel-injected 2.8-liter M130 inline-six engine, a 4-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, power windows, air conditioning, and a vintage Becker Grand Prix radio. Reportedly cared for by its original owner until 2021, this W112 was purchased by the seller in 2023 and underwent subsequent cooling system and heater service. This 280SE Cabriolet is now being offered for auction out of Massachusetts.
This 280SE came factory-finished in Grey Beige and features a brown convertible top, a red boot cover, and chrome brightwork. Equipment includes quad headlamps, a chrome driver’s side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, dual exhaust tips, and 14” steel wheels with body-color hubcaps. The car rides on 195/75 Michelin whitewall tires. Some areas of the exterior are believed to have been refinished during previous ownership. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is appointed with maroon leather upholstery complemented by brown carpets, wood dashboard trim, and a black two-spoke steering wheel. Accessories include an under-dash MagneTemp air conditioning system, power windows, a floor-mounted gear selector, black and red Coco floor mats, an analog dashboard clock, VDO gauges, and a Becker Grand Prix pushbutton radio. The seller notes the turn signal must be held continuously to indicate right turns, the driver's window operates slowly, some cracks are present on the seats, and the wood dashboard trim was replaced under their ownership.
The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six engine is equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection and delivers up to 158 HP and 177 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes power steering, independent double-wishbone front suspension, and power-assisted disc brakes at each corner. Under the seller’s ownership, the cooling system hoses, radiator core, and heater slides were replaced and the heater core was rebuilt.
This sale will include a tool roll, owner's manuals, a spare tire, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: "She's a beautiful driving car."
