Available for auction is this 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Roadster finished in Regency Red over a Black leather interior. Lauded by Enzo Ferrari as the “the most beautiful car ever made”, the E-Type was originally adapted from the D-Type race cars and features unitary construction, disc brakes, independent rear suspension, and a powerful inline six-cylinder engine. This 1969 example is reported to have been under the care of the same owner for the last 25 years and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida accompanied by a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.

The second series of the E-Type introduced several changes including a wraparound rear bumper, larger front indicators, removal of the glass headlight covers, repositioned taillights, and a larger front grille. This example is finished in Regency Red with a black convertible soft top. The seller notes areas of fading and clear coat degradation throughout the exterior as well as some rust on the undercarriage. It rides on a set of aftermarket 15” wire wheels dressed in newer Michelin tires. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the cockpit is trimmed in black leather with matching door panels and carpets. The seller reports the cabin was refurbished at some point and features an upgraded radio. Accessories include a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, a suite of Smith’s analog instrumentation, roll-up windows, a locking glove box, and lap belts. The seller confirms that all gauges and accessories remain fully functional.

Power comes from a triple-carbureted 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine which drives the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. Standard features include an independent coil-spring rear suspension, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and a synchromesh gearbox. Images of the engine and undercarriage are provided in the gallery and the seller states extensive records are available detailing the service performed under the care of its previous long-term owner.

This sale will include a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and a clean title.

Like yours, mine is in excellent mechanical condition and restored the cabin , and like yours left the paint and body for the next owner to do to own discretion this cars history is well documented and is dependable and a pleasure to drive

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

This car is very similar to mine, although mine is in significantly better condition.
A couple of things bear mention:
    1. The cooling system, lighting and driver comfort on the Series 2 cars is way better than on the beloved Series 1 cars.
    2. The stock carbs on the Series 2 cars were dual 1 3/4" Zenith/Stromberg Constant Depression units. This car has the triple 2" SU units from the Series 1 cars. This is a significant improvement!
    3. This car has the stainless steel aftermarket exhaust system. I can't tell if that is the 2" diameter tubing or the smaller stock size, but this is also an improvement over the stock cast iron enameled manifold.
Lastly, these things are great fun to own and drive. Yes they leak oil and I find that I have to stay on top of minor electrical issues, but it's worth it. They are not exactly cheap, but are not so damn valuable and precious as the earlier Series 1 cars and can be fearlessly enjoyed.
I restored EVERYTHING mechanical on mine, but left the paint as when I bought it just so that I can enjoy it without worrying about road rash.
Good luck with the auction, I'll be watching this closely.
