Conceived to homologate Ford’s 429ci semi-hemispherical “Boss” engine for NASCAR, the Mustang Boss 429 was produced exclusively for the 1969 and 1970 model years, with only 1,359 units built. Among the rarest and most desirable muscle cars of its time, this example is one of approximately 850 units for the inaugural year and was originally delivered through Jerry Alderman Ford Sales in Indianapolis, Indiana. Finished in Wimbledon White over a Black Clarion Knit vinyl interior with high-back bucket seats, the car retains its numbers-matching Z-code 429-4V Boss engine, close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, and Traction-Lok rear axle. Factory equipment includes power front disc brakes, power steering, Competition Suspension, the Visibility Group, Interior Décor Group Deluxe, color-keyed racing mirrors, and a functional front spoiler. A concours-level restoration was reportedly completed by marque expert Drew Alcazar between 2017 and 2018, with fewer than 30 miles driven since. Acquired by the seller here on PCARMARKET in April 2024, this Boss 429 is now being offered for auction out of Nebraska, showing approximately 32k miles on the odometer and accompanied by a collection of documentation.

Because the standard Mustang’s engine bay could not accommodate the wide 429ci Boss V8, Ford enlisted Kar Kraft of Brighton, Michigan, to modify 4-speed Cobra Jet Mustangs for Boss 429 installation. This example was factory-finished in Wimbledon White (1619-A) and equipped with an optional front spoiler, color-keyed racing mirrors, and chrome 15” Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in period-style Goodyear Polyglas GT tires. The aforementioned restoration reportedly included a complete disassembly, rotisserie mounting, and a comprehensive refurbishment to factory specifications inside and out. Detailed images of the restoration process are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed in Black Clarion Knit vinyl with matching carpets, woodgrain accents, and factory hi-back bucket seats. This example was optioned with the Interior Décor Group Deluxe and Visibility Group, along with deluxe seatbelts and warning lights, an AM radio, a center console, and a trunk-mounted battery. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order, although the alternator warning light occasionally flickers.

At the heart of the Boss 429 sits a 429ci V8 engine featuring semi-hemispherical combustion chambers, an aluminum intake manifold, and a Holley 735-cfm four-barrel carburetor. A factory-rated 375 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok limited-slip differential. Additional factory options include power steering, power front disc brakes, and Competition Suspension. The car is said to have been restored to its original mechanical specifications. Images of serial numbers are revealed in the gallery, along with the original window sticker, restoration photos, and a Deluxe Marti Report from Marti Auto Works. Upon the seller’s acquisition, a new crankshaft and camshaft have been installed, and the carburetor has been rebuilt.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals and window sticker, a clean title, a toolkit, a spare tire, historical documentation, a period-correct Autolite battery, and a display board with option details.

The seller would like you to know: “This is your chance to own an amazing S-code Boss 429 with documentation and history. With recent engine repair with original components, it will provide the new owner with worry-free enjoyment for years to come. The car runs fabulously and always has drawn attention. Thanks for bidding, you will be thankful you did.”
