This 1969 Datsun 1600, also known as the Sports 1600 or Fairlady 1600, represents one of the final iterations of the Fairlady series before the Datsun 240Z succeeded it. Renowned for its nimble handling, sporty performance, and reliability, it features a 1.6-liter inline-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. This example has been refinished in silver over a black vinyl interior and features a replacement stainless-steel exhaust system with a catalytic converter, a GM-sourced alternator, stainless-steel brake lines, and updated front suspension components. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

The second-generation Fairlady received a facelift in 1965, featuring restyling by Count Albrecht Goertz, who later contributed to the design of the first Fairlady Z. The design is characterized by a low-slung profile, long hood, short rear deck, and a horizontal front grille flanked by round headlights. This example was previously resprayed in silver from its reported original blue finish and features a black convertible soft top. Equipment includes chrome bumpers and trim, a Datsun Roadster Fairlady badge on the front grille, and 14” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and older tires. The seller notes a paint bubble on the hood and some orange peel within the paint. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is outfitted with black vinyl-upholstered bucket seats and a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. The equipment includes a vinyl-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, multi-gauge instrumentation, various controls mounted to the center stack, a central armrest, and roll-up windows. The seller notes a tear on the dashboard, and one of the knobs on the left of the steering wheel is broken.

Beneath the hood is a 1.6-liter R16 inline-four engine equipped with dual carburetors, producing up to 96 HP in stock form. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The transmission fluid was changed in June 2020, and a replacement stainless-steel exhaust system with a catalytic converter was installed in July 2020. The alternator was replaced with a GM part in August 2020, and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale. Stainless steel brake lines were reportedly installed in June 2020, and the front suspension bushings and tie rod ends are said to have been previously replaced. Corrosion is noted on the underside and in the engine bay.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “The owner has enjoyed owning this Datsun since he purchased it in 2021 as is looking to consolidate his collection to purchase another car. We're looking forward to seeing it go to a good caretaker!"

@TheGuesser nice! Bummed didn’t get to say hi.

The car drove there and back no problems, obviously its a 60’s car so don’t expect it to behave like anything else. You gotta work to drive the car but it’s pretty simple and straightforward. it’s got great bones and just needs some TLC to get it to 100% like suspension bushings and some cosmetic pieces (drives well for a 60’s car amongst new cars). And given that they’re so easy to work on, especially mechanically, it should be a breeze to keep it going for a long time with little to no technical skills and some YouTube videos ;)

Were in the last 3 hours here!

The owner would like to mention that since purchasing the car it’s been stored indoors and enjoyed on occasion, and although he really doesn’t want to part ways, other opportunities call. We’re looking forward to seeing it go to its new home.

Hi everyone, this is G with Heritage Gruppe, we're happy to present this Datsun 1600 roadster here on Pcarmarket and are looking forward to seeing it go to its next caretaker!

This Datsun was purchased by the current owner in 2021 and shows 7k miles on the odometer. The car has been fully repainted in the past by one of the previous owners and also includes the factory soft tops that are not installed on the car.

Overall the car drives great, I've had the pleasure of putting a few miles on it both in the city and on the freeway and was surprised how nimble and zippy it is. It even coasts at 80mph no problems and keeps up with modern cars. It is a 4 speed car so at higher speeds the rpm is at a higher point however the engine sounds healthy and starts up and goes everytime with no overheating issues!

The car is currently registered and is ready for its new caretaker. If you'd like to see the car in person we just ask that you're a current bidder at the auction and for test drives we require proof of funds.

Otherwise if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us or leave them in the comments section below!

    Happy bidding!
