Introduced as an entry-level sister car to the original Porsche 911 in 1965, the Porsche 912 featured a 356SC-derived flat-four engine that was lighter and easier to maintain than its flat-six counterpart. While approximately 30,000 Porsche 912 Coupes were produced over a 5-year run, there were roughly only 2,500 Targa versions with a removable roof panel. This 1968 example is a Porsche 912 featuring a rare Soft Window Targa (SWT) configuration and a desirable Bahama Yellow factory paint color. The car is said to have been owned and driven in California before being parked in storage in 1995 and was eventually recommissioned in 2015 with new paint and a rebuild of its original engine. Having been with its current owner since 2020, this numbers matching 912 Targa is now being offered for auction out of California.

This 912 has been refinished in its factory-specified color of Bahama Yellow (6805) and features a Soft Window Targa top with a removable roof panel and zip-out rear window, providing four different driving configurations. Equipment includes chrome trim and headlight bezels, a driver’s side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, rear bumperettes, and chrome 15” slotted steel wheels dressed in new Nexen tires. The seller describes the exterior as in good overall condition, although the paint has not been color-sanded and its appearance can be improved. The seller adds that a new rear soft window has been installed and a small scrape is present beneath the passenger-side windshield wiper arm. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The Black leatherette is described to be highly original and unrestored apart from the front seats which have been reupholstered. Accessories include door panel storage pockets, roll-up windows, headrests, a black four-spoke steering wheel, brushed aluminum dashboard trim, an analog clock, and an aftermarket Blaupunkt Laguna radio. The seller indicates a few small tears in the rear trim pieces and one crack on the dashboard. The temperature gauge needle is stuck in the max position and the handbrake cable requires repair or replacement.

The air-cooled 1,600cc flat-four engine is equipped with dual carburetors and a 5-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. The seller indicates the engine was completely rebuilt under prior ownership after the car was recommissioned in 2015. Images of the Kardex and drivetrain case stampings are provided in the gallery.

This sale will include a spare tire, a toolkit, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “A nice all-stock lifelong California car that is fun to cruise in.”

Very good. The bumper guards and trims are new. The stainless targa bar is original and very nice. The only flaw is pictured on the rear of the driver door top trim.

  • Remy10 (registered bidder) 5 months, 3 weeksago

Overall, how would you rate the chrome and stainless, inside and out?

The targa top covering is not loose or worn. There is some slight rippling along the front edge(pictured). It locks down tight against new seals and there is no wind noise when driving.

  • alexdad (registered bidder) 5 months, 3 weeksago

Is the Targa Top covering loose and or worn? The liner condition?

Yes I'm sure it had some bodywork done when it was repainted as it's a 50 year old car. The only rust I was aware of was the floorpans as they have both been replaced.. No sorry I don't have pre paint pics or records. Yes I will add some more pics later today.

  • K.Wise (registered bidder) 5 months, 3 weeksago

Hi, nice car. In looking at picture 33, it appears some body work was done at the bottom of the A pillar. Are you aware of previous rust issues? Any pictures of the car before it was repainted in 2015? Any service records? Can you post a picture of the tool kit? Thanks

Are you willing to assist in arranging for out of state transport?

  • Chipper (seller) 5 months, 3 weeksago

Kardex is pictured which is the source of the info for COAs. Everything is still matching numbers. Jack tubes are there and perfect,I will upload some pics for you. I'm not 100% sure what the tubes are in pic 66,maybe remnants of an old AC system. No rust. Paint is in excellent condition with the only blemishes pictured. The floorpans have been replaced . Full engine rebuild to 1720cc specs. Bearings seals heads etc. Tires are new 165/80/15.

  • MyronfromDenver (registered bidder) 5 months, 3 weeksago

Do you have a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche
I could not see the jack tubes in the pictures. Are the jack tubes still in the frame
In photo 66, what is that tube like item going into the frame
Does the body have any rust or has any rust been repaired prior the painting
What was the extent of the engine rebuild. Was the displacement increased to 1720cc
    What is the tire size

  • Chipper (seller) 5 months, 3 weeksago
