We are pleased to present this 1968 Porsche 912 racecar finished in a Gulf Blue and orange livery over a lightweight interior. Purchased by its current owner as a 912-donor chassis about 25 years ago, this Porsche has undergone an extensive racing conversion which included numerous performance modifications as well as a custom-built 2.0 L flat-six engine. Weighing in at approximately 2050 lbs. and fully equipped to hit the track, this purpose-built Porsche offers the perfect opportunity for any vintage motorsport enthusiast.
This car is finished in Gulf Blue with a matching orange livery, a nod to legendary vintage Porsche racing cars. It is said to have been refinished during the mid 1980’s and the seller indicates typical track-going wear, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. The front fenders, front lip and rear spoiler have been replaced with lightweight fiberglass components, and the rear and side windows have also been exchanged with Lexan in an effort to reduce weight. This racecar rides on factory alloy Fuchs wheels up front and replica Fuchs wheels in the rear. The tires are said to be in need of replacement and the seller indicates that this vehicle has not seen track use in over 10 years.
Inside, the interior has been partially stripped and outfitted with track-oriented safety equipment including a roll bar, fire suppression system, master kill switch and an APC driver seat with Sparco harness. A racing fuel cell has been installed underneath the bonnet and the steel doors have also been gutted and fitted with lightweight aluminum inner panels. All essential gauges and electrical components are said to be fully functional, and the seller notes that this 912 could be made street legal with some modifications including road-compliant lighting and safety glass.
The car has been equipped with a custom-built flat-six engine based off of a 1968 case with a short stroke 2.0 L crankshaft. Approximately 165 HP is delivered to the rear wheels by way of a recently rebuilt 901/02 5-speed manual transmission. Noteworthy performance features include high compression pistons, E-Spec cams, fully sorted Zenith carburetors and a Megaphone straight-pipe exhaust. Braking has also been improved with Carrera front calipers, S-spec rear calipers and stainless-steel lines. Within the last 3 months this 912 has been completely gone through with a full service carried out including the following items:
The seller states that this racecar remains in solid race-ready condition, just in need of a fresh set of tires.
The sale of this racecar will include the original books and one key, window nets, a logbook with race history and some extra decals. The seller notes that this car will be sold with a Bill of Sale. Whether you’re looking for you next competitive edge or simply crave the air-cooled racecar experience, this 911 offers a very unique opportunity.
