Available for auction is a rare 1 of 449 1968 Porsche 911L 2.0 long-block engine. The seller states the engine ran when it was removed in February of 2021 but has 2 weak cylinders and is a prime candidate for a rebuild. The engine was run for a year in the seller’s vehicle and was only removed for a hot-rod engine upgrade. The engine was reported to be free of any leaks and ran well despite the weak cylinders. The seller believes the engine has been previously rebuilt and has hydraulic chain tensioners installed. The engine serial number is 3280720. The true mileage is unknown. The air-box and carburetor in the background of the images are not included. A video of the engine running can be viewed. The buyer is responsible for shipping, handling, and fees.

@ride786 -- Follow up: The engine builder just messaged me that there are no cooling fins, so this engine is confirmed to be magnesium.
@ride786 I have always thought it was a magnesium case. From the color alone, one would come to that conclusion. Your question prompted me to do some research, and it is true that Porsche made 2.0 cases in 1968 out of both magnesium and aluminum (in very early castings). I have asked my engine builder (where the motor is) to see if he can take a photo of the bottom of the motor. I am hoping to have that within a reasonable time and will surely post that picture should I get it. Aluminum ones have cooling fins and the mag cases do not. That said, it appears to be magnesium and the tech who I just spoke to agreed.

Thanks for your interest in this rare motor. This was the engine that was already in my blue '71 (at the cars and coffee today) when I bought it. It is an ideal motor for a period restoration, or a 2.0 race class. I am here to answer any questions.
