Now available for auction is this 1968 Mercedes-Benz W108 250S finished in Dark Red over a black interior. This classic luxury sedan was sold new in San Francisco and is said to have remained under the care of its original owner up until 2014 before being passed along to another member of his family. It features a 2.5L inline-6 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Accompanied by a collection of records and the original owner’s handbook, this beautifully presented W108 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California showing just over 98k miles on the odometer.
This 250S is finished in Dark Red (542) and features chrome exterior moldings, bumpers, and large “greenhouse” glass windows. The seller describes the paint and body to remain in great shape, additional images are provided in the photo gallery. This W108 rides on factory 14” steel wheels with color-matched hubcaps and Tiger Paw AWP II tires.
Inside, you will find a beautifully presented black MB-Tex leatherette interior with grey square weave carpeting and a wood veneered dashboard. Features include an original Becker Grand Prix radio, central heat and ventilation controls, manual roll-up windows, lap belts, and an elegant black-rimmed steering wheel with a chrome horn ring. Ahead of the steering wheel sits VDO instrumentation including a 140-MPH speedometer, analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil, and fuel level. The 5-digit odometer currently reads just over 98k reportedly original miles.
Power comes from a dual-carbureted 2.5L M108 inline-6 engine rated at 130 HP. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed automatic transmission which is reported to have been rebuilt in 2018 within the last 2,500 miles. Another invoice from October of 2016 totals over $4,800 and includes a valve adjustment, new wheel bearings, tie rod ends, belts, engine mounts, spark plugs, shift rod bushings, coolant system repair, a new valve cover gasket, and more.

@LordVenn I would be hesitant to drive any 50+ year old car across country without having looked at it myself, but with that being said, for me, this car for that trip would probably be toward the top of the list. If you were to make that trip, you would be subject to California sales tax and license. Would be cheaper, most likely, to ship it.

Fantastic Classic
Brings back memories of my collegiate era 72 250. Dual carburetors, a humming motor that pulls up grades. Nicknamed the Cabernet Coach as the boot held cases of wine from scavenger hunts in rural Sonoma and Napa before fancy tasty rooms prevailed.
Let on a Sausalito side street mid ‘90’s never to been seen again. I still have the key.
