The Jeep Jeepster Commando C101 was released as a mid-size 4x4 in 1966 to compete with the likes of the Ford Bronco, Internation Harvester Scout, and Toyota Land Cruiser. This 1968 convertible variant was originally designated for Off-Road Desert Service near El Centro, California with unique options such as an onboard air compressor, a Warn 5687 winch, and a swing-out rear bumper. It has since received a frame-off Concours-level restoration with a powdercoated frame and a refinished Prarie Gold exterior, a removable white hardtop with a wooden headliner, and a reupholstered brown leather interior. Awarded Best in Class in a June 2021 AACA event and reported to have only been driven 5 miles since the restoration, this Commando is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.

This Jeepster Commando Convertible was repainted in its original color of Prarie Gold (419) and features a removable white top, a black roll bar, white powdercoated bumpers, a rear swing out with a jerry can holder and spare tire mount, and a driver’s side exterior mirror. A Warn 5687 winch was factory optioned and has received a matching recovery hook, as well as a shovel and spotlight mounted to the winch plate. The 15” steel wheels wear Warn locking hubs at all four corners and are mounted with BF Goodrich Traction Plus light truck tires, which were replaced during the restoration.

The interior has been reupholstered in brown leather, with front bucket seats, a rear bench seat, and a matching center console and dashboard. Features include matching brown lap belts, crank windows, black carpeting, a lockable glovebox, an onboard air compressor, and a dash-mounted compass. The seller states all instrumentation and features to be operating correctly at this time.

This Jeepster Commando is powered by a 225ci Dauntless V6 that was factory rated at 160 HP and 235 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels by a 4-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The engine, steering, brakes, and driveline were said to be refreshed during the restoration using all original parts. The seller reports the oil bath breather pictures have only been used for display, and a standard air filter is used for driving.

This sale will include extensive documentation of the restoration and a clean title.

@EmeraldE Yes engine was completely re-done, with approx 5 miles on it since, the winch is on a receiver hitch and can be easily removed.
    Thank you

Was the engine rebuilt during bathe restoration, i.e new pistons, bearings, valves/seats, rebuilt carb, etc. can you include a photo of the rebuild documentation?

Also, it appears the winch assembly is mounted on a trailer hitch - is it easily removable/reinstalled including the wiring?

Thanks - that is terrific restoration work.
