Originally produced at Ford’s Dearborn Michigan plant as a rare X-code Mustang Fastback, this 1968 example has been comprehensively restored and modified as an homage to the Shelby GT500. It features a fuel-injected 429ci V8 engine with extensive performance upgrades, a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission, a 3.73 limited-slip 9” rear axle, Wilwood disc brakes, power steering, Heidts coilover suspension, and custom bodywork with functional side scoops. Completed after a decade-long, no-expense-spared restoration, this bespoke Mustang Fastback is now available for auction on behalf of the owner out of Rhode Island.
The exterior is said to have undergone extensive bodywork during its restoration, including the installation of new single-piece floors, frame rails, quarter panels, inner fenders, wheel wells, and reinforcements for the adjustable coilover suspension. This Mustang Fastback comes finished in Black Metallic paint with Grey Metallic over-the-top stripes, complemented by new chrome trim. Additional features include Shelby GT500 decals and badging, functional side air intake scoops, side-exit exhaust pipes, a ram-air hood cowl, auxiliary driving lamps, and American Racing Shelby 407 wheels with Shelby knockoff-style center caps. It rides on Nitto NT555 tires reportedly in very good condition, sized 245/45 R17 in front and 315/35 R17 in the rear. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The interior features high-back front bucket seats and folding rear seats upholstered in black leather, complemented by deluxe brushed aluminum door panels and dashboard trim. Additional details include a tilting steering wheel, Carroll Shelby Signature instrumentation, AutoMeter gauges, center and overhead consoles with map lights, an AM/FM/USB radio, GT500 Eleanor-style seatbelts, and a Hurst shifter. The seller notes the odometer was set to zero upon the restoration.
Power comes from a 429ci V8 engine that was reportedly fully rebuilt with ported heads, MSD ignition, a Holley Sniper EFI fuel injection system, an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake, and custom stainless-steel headers. Additional features include a custom fuel tank and electric fuel pump. The engine is claimed to produce 500 HP and 550 lb.-ft of torque, delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec TK0 600 5-speed manual transmission paired with a Modern Driveline conversion kit and 3.73 limited-slip 9” rear axle. Performance upgrades to the chassis include power-assisted rack and pinion steering, a shock tower delete kit, Heidts fully adjustable coilovers, QA1 shocks, frame connectors, a new wiring harness, and Wilwood disc brakes with a 7/8” bore master cylinder. The seller adds that the motor and engine compartment wiring were overhauled in the summer of 2022. No outstanding maintenance items have been reported.
This sale will include a clean title.

Eleanor/Shelby 500 Tribute Bidders
With just over 24 hours left on our Shelby/Eleanor Tribute auction we'd like thank the local auction viewers that stopped by QMS to inspect the car and the distant viewers that joined us via live Facetime sessions. All agreed that pictures and videos can't fully portray the quality of the build and its' components .
There is still plenty of time to contact us to schedule a live walk around and hear the car run (use Contact Seller tab at top of listing) and we'll be standing by to answer any final questions here on the forum.
Bid with confidence, it's as good they get for $125,000+ less than the cost to build one to this level.
Best of luck to all!

@Edwangco
We'll add a cold start video when we get in tomorrow. Unfortunately the auction start snuck up on us before we could record a drive video. Now there is snow and salt on the roads here in Rhode Island so a drive video is a no go until the roads are clear again. Be assured that the car drives like it looks and please contact us if you'd like to schedule a live Facetime or on site pre-purchase inspection.
Bid in the amount of $56,789
