This meticulously restored Ford Mustang serves as an homage to the iconic 1968 Ford Mustang GT featured in the classic film "Bullitt." The original car played a pivotal role in shaping the evolution of car chase scenes, exhibiting a 10-minute pursuit with Steve McQueen portraying Lt. Frank Bullitt while chasing a black Dodge Charger from behind the wheel of his Mustang GT. This 1968 Mustang has been reconfigured with the iconic fastback body style, presented in a dark green metallic shade over black upholstery. Fitted with a 402 Stroker V8 paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, this Bullitt tribute is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
This example was subjected to a complete nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration, encompassing the fitment of the iconic fastback body style adorned in a dark green metallic finish with extensive chrome brightwork. Details include dual hood vents, clear side markers, a driver’s side mirror, quarter window louvers, pronounced fender flares, dual exhaust outlets, front/rear fog lights, and 5-spoke wheels dressed in new tires. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been redone with new black upholstery complemented with exterior color-matched doors and a matching lower dashboard panel and center console. Details include a wood-rimmed 3-spoke steering wheel, a white cueball-style shift knob, roll-up windows, lap belts, Ford-branded door sills, and instrumentation including a speedometer, tachometer, & additional auxiliary gauges. Bullitt and Steve McQueen decorations adorn the center console, while Mustang-scripted mats line the floors.
Beneath the hood lies an upgraded 402 Stroker V8 engine, sending power to the rear wheels through a newly fitted 5-speed manual transmission. The seller states all new hardware and wiring were installed during the restoration.
This sale will include a clean title.

This listing never had a chance.
Very poorly presented.
In my opinion
Hopefully the car will be listed again.
Hey guys, sorry to inform you the motor is making a noise that I do not like at this time I got to removed the car from the auction. Once it’s figured out it will be relisted. Truly sorry
Would you be willing to share the name of the builder and maybe some pictures of the restoration and conversion. I think this would help with establishing bidding/value.
Could you supply more information about the engine/drivetrain? I wasn’t aware that a 302w could be stroked to 402 (I could be wrong). I know the 351w can. What information do you have on the rear end? 9”? Limited slip? Gear ratio? It would also be helpful to get the data plate information just to know what we’re looking at (at least from the start).
Thank you.
Well, it does appear to be a very well done coupe to fastback conversion. @tdb46 is correct, pics of the build/conversion process would be helpful.
Just to clarify. Was this a 68 coupe from the factory ? And not a fast back ?
Well now we know!
It would be well advised to tell /show the entire build as it looks very well done even though it doesn’t follow all the movie Bullitt cars changes. GLWA
@tdb46 sorry about that. I was a little confused on it you were correct. Just like it stated in the post it’s too early in the morning over here.
@tdb46 I just talked to the builder. This was a conversion to a Steve McQueen fastback

The VIN posted says otherwise!

@tdb46 It’s a 1968 mustang fastback
Something is not right here. Seller needs respond and disclose what exactly this car is and all of the work done. It’s a beautiful car but buyers need more info.
@vero it’s a man-made leather material the vintage air kits around 1500+ labor
As tbd46 pointed out, this vin tag states that it was a coupe. https://www.fastbackstack.com/decoding-your-1967-or-1968-mustang-vin/
What material was used to reupholster the seats and the headliner? Also, do you have an idea of how much it would cost to install air-conditioning??
@Stujo4 this is a 302 stroker that is now a 402
@EVantage this is a factory Ford 1968 body
More info on the engine, please: Is this a 351W stroked to 402W? Who built it? Thanks.
Dynacorn body?
I believe the VIN does indeed show that this was a coupe when it left the factory
Simply gorgeous!
@GrandNatty Yes, it was a fastback, from the factory. The car was refurbished back into the Steve McQueen fastback
@russellautoclassics - confused by this: "This 1968 Mustang has been reconfigured with the iconic fastback body style" - it wasn't born a fastback????
