Available for auction is this 1967 Volkswagen Beetle presented in a custom metallic red finish over a black vinyl interior. This Type 1 Beetle was acquired by the seller in June of 2021 and is said to have been restored and upgraded under prior ownership including a rebuilt 1600cc flat-four with dual carburetors, a Pertronics ignition system, and a high-performance camshaft. Other unique features include staggered-width alloy wheels, lowered suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and an eight-speaker stereo system. An excellent value for classic air-cooled performance, this custom Beetle is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Connecticut.

Under prior ownership, this Beetle was completely refinished in the current metallic red paint color. All trim pieces are said to have been replaced as well. Equipment includes H4 headlights, chrome bumpers with overriders, dual mirrors, body-colored running boards, pop-out rear windows, and staggered-width 15″ wheels. The car rides on a mixed set of 145/65 Continental tires in front and 255/60 Futura tires at the rear. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The seats are upholstered in black vinyl with matching door panels and carpeting. The seller states the interior was refurbished under previous ownership and remains in very good condition aside from a small tear on the driver's seat. Features include a three-spoke Grant steering wheel, front shoulder belts, rear lap belts, and a wicker parcel tray beneath the dashboard. The custom sound system features a hidden Bluetooth stereo, dual 10” subwoofers, four speakers, and two tweeters driven by a Lanzar amplifier.

Power comes from a rebuilt 1600cc flat-four engine upgraded with dual carburetors, high compression pistons, a Pertronics ignition system, a high-performance camshaft, and a Jones exhaust. The rear wheels are driven by way of a Freeway Flyer four-speed manual transaxle. The suspension is also said to have been rebuilt and lowered, and disc brakes have been added at all four corners.

This sale will include a clean title. Sporting classic looks and upgraded performance, this Beetle makes an excellent air-cooled weekend driver.

A beautiful tweaked ride. It didn’t sell at other auction (bid to $18k I think) so we’ve got a long way to go here. Worth some good money, so will be watching but not holding my breath to be able to get in on this personally if goes above that, and gets the top dollar it probably deserves. Great stance, and setup with kewl wheels and tasteful fast mods. The freeway flyer is a huge perk! I have on my 67 and always looking for another. Someone will be very happy with this but it’s going to take some stepping up. The owner knows what he has and it’s nice!

@Bruce914 thanks for your interest. the car is a modified 67. it is not being advertised as a stock 67. it has been fully modded and restored. the fenders are steel and excellent as is the paint and attention to detail.

nice looking bug - were the front fenders changed out due to damage or ??? 67's were unique in the fact that they had the new headlights (no glass) but last year for old style bumpers.

@rrydberg YES!!!! I figured I would put it up at auction ending time that doesn’t conflict with one of the best NFL playoff games ever!! Turns out VW guys like football!!

Wasn't this car recently listed as sold on BAT at the end of January? Same photos and descriptions...

@Manpot I was told it is a 1600. I wouldnt feel comfortable saying its anything else. Thanks for your interest

  • Manpot 2 years, 10 monthsago

Are you sure this is a 1600? With that setup I would have imagined a big bore kit of 1776 would have been used. Makes a bug difference.
