Up for auction is this 1967 Porsche 911 Coupe finished in Black over a black interior.  Purchased by its seller earlier in 2020, this 1967 example is believed to have been formerly owned in California before eventually making its way up to Buffalo, New York.  Under previous ownership, this 911 was repainted in Black and fitted with a correct-type 2.0 L flat-six engine that is said to have been rebuilt approximately 4 years ago by a certified Porsche technician.  Having undergone a considerable amount of refurbishment in the last several months including the recent rebuilding of the Weber carburetors, this classic 1967 911 is now being offered by its seller in Rhode Island while showing approximately 87k miles on the 5-digit odometer.

This 911 was previously refinished in Black from its original factory color of Bahama Yellow.  The paint is said to be in excellent overall condition with some minor road-going wear as well as some surface bubbles on the left front fender (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The exterior brightwork was refinished in black, the brake calipers were refinished in blue, a 911S-type front bumper was installed, and correct side-view mirrors were installed by the seller. The factory Fuchs wheels are said to be dressed in nearly brand-new Dunlop tires.

Inside, the cabin is said to be in very good condition.  The driver’s seat bottom was recently replaced and an aftermarket 3-spoke steering wheel has been installed along with an aftermarket radio, and Pioneer speakers behind the rear seats.

During previous ownership, a correct replacement 2.0 L flat-six engine was installed which is reported to have been rebuilt by a certified Porsche technician within the last 4 years.  A factory 4-speed manual gearbox drives the rear wheels and the Weber 40 carburetors have been freshly restored.  A solid-state ignition system has been added along with an aftermarket quad-tip exhaust, and a thorough recent inspection found the suspension and braking systems to be in good operating condition.   The hood and trunk shocks have also been recently replaced and the seller indicates this 911 to be in great running order for its next owner.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, a bill of sale, a maintenance manual, an older Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a Bilstein jack, and a collapsible spare tire.  For any enthusiast looking to get behind the wheel of an early air-cooled 911, this driver-grade 1967 example is not to be overlooked.

    @PCH Thank you for your comments and request for clarification. The numbers stamped on the engine case put it in the correct period in which this vehicle belongs. I totally understand the request for documentation, but I cannot provide them because the person who embarked in the major engine rebuild is no longer with us and his siblings have not found those receipts. The major evidence is the car itself, which unlike many other cars that age, runs extremely well and is in great cosmetic shape. The proof of its condition is the car itself, and, anyone intending to purchase it, is welcomed to have it inspected. I laugh when I hear about the cars being auctioned as ¨resto-mods¨, as being very popular and expensive in spite of not being numbers-matching at all. Nobody seems to mind RUF, DP, Gembala, Strosek, and others, having totally different engines from the way in wjhich they came out of the factory. I have a Strosek turbo that was originally built as 3.2 Carrera. There are all those others like, Outlaws, Singer, Magnus Walker building cars with nothing matching while they create cars that people want. This car is a 1967 Porsche 911 in as true-to-form as it can be. It is delight to drive and it still turns heads because of its looks. It is one of very few cars that you can still enjoy the way the first 911s were meant to be. If you are looking to spend your money to put it in a collection and never exercise it , forget about this car. A friend of mine, owner of 1973 Carrera RS with the number plate ENJOY, said, ¨A Porsche is made for driving hard and strong, not to be just looked at¨. I will finish saying that this car is an excellent driving example of its time, and its great looks still turn heads.

    "Said to have" or stating, "considerable amount of refurbishment" without details and receipts to substantiate your claim doesn't add a level of confidence with real early 911 P-car buyers. Additionally, as utppify stated, numbers matter. Good luck!

    @pra911 Yes, gotcha. I read the engine #'s were not matching. I was more interested in the stamping/numbers to understand the vintage/original car the current engine came with. A period correct 2.0 (901/06 somewhere in the 911191 to 912050 range would be period) would add value. Good luck - and thank you. PS - those worried about a title, New England pre-72 cars come with a transferrable registration that is easily converted to titles in states that issue them. No need to worry.

    @pra911 no title of course because it’s New England- 25 year title exempt. Does the car have a clear RI registration?

    @Rick979 Hi Rick,

    It is a clear and free to sell auto.
    There no title issued for a 1967 automobile.

    Does it come with a TITLE?? Thanks, Rick

    @utopify The engine numbers are non-matching. The mirrors were installed by the body shop to replace two plastic racing mirrors that had come with the car. He had not reference to the passenger position, but he copied a driver's side 67 911 location. I have not seen any early cars with dual mirrors. That issue is easily addressed. The gearbox as well as all other mechanical parts are in great shape and function very well. The gauges all work appropriately. New turn signal and horn parts have been installed. There is a jack, but no tool kit.

  • utopify (registered bidder) 3 years, 9 monthsago

    Details on the engine, including numbers? Passenger mirror is mounted in the wrong location. History/life of the gearbox and essentials? (Linkages, ebrake, hand throttle, heat, gauges, signals, etc...). Tools? Jack?

    Need some more info!

    Cheers and Happy Holidays
