Produced during Peugeot’s golden era, the 404C emerged as a more refined and sport-focused version of the 404 sedan, showcasing advanced engineering for its time. Powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four engine paired with a column-mounted 4-speed manual transmission, this 1967 example underwent a refurbishment and is refinished in silver over a Cognac XO interior. It comes equipped with a black soft top, chrome accents, 15” steel wheels, a cassette radio, and more. This 404 Convertible is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada.

Designed by Pininfarina, the Peugeot 404 debuted in 1960 as a four-door sedan, with the two-door version premiering as a cabriolet at the 1961 Paris Motor Show. Featuring steel coachwork from Pininfarina’s Grugliasco factory, this example has been refinished in silver as part of its refurbishment. It has bi-color front indicators, side markers, dual side mirrors, chrome accents on the grille, front fenders, doors, and the top edges of the quarter panels. It rides on 15” steel wheels adorned with chrome hubcaps and wrapped in Kumho Power Star tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The interior is appointed with individual front seats, a rear bench, and door panels upholstered in Cognac XO leather, complemented by black carpeting and bright trim accents on the black padded dashboard. It also equips a two-spoke steering wheel adorned with a rampant-lion center cap, a column-mounted shifter, and a cassette radio. The seller notes that while the fuel gauge is non-functional, no warning lights are currently illuminated.

Power comes from a 1.6-liter inline-four equipped which delivers a factory-rated 96 HP to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The suspension includes an independent front setup with coil springs and hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers, paired with a rear rigid axle featuring semi-elliptical leaf springs and telescopic shock absorbers. Front disc and rear drum brakes facilitate stopping power, while a rack-and-pinion system handles steering. The seller notes that the vehicle has undergone a complete tune-up and brake service in preparation for the sale.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a spare tire, and a registration certificate.

The seller would like you to know: “The Peugeot 404 was a truly special car, winning over almost 3 million owners. Even Enzo Ferrari succumbed to its charms. A ratio of 3 (404) / 1000 were convertibles, designed by PininFarina. Family traits can be seen in the Ferrari 330 America, which was produced during the same period. The sturdiness of its mechanics means that some taxi in Africa still use them. This specimen combines mechanical excellence with timeless design for a perfect, harmonious marriage.”
