The Ghia 450 SS was introduced at the 1966 Turin Motor Show, blending sophisticated Italian design by Carrozzeria Ghia with the robust underpinnings of the contemporary Plymouth Barracuda. Each Ghia 450 SS was delivered new by a single dealer in Beverly Hills, California, and as few as 52 examples are believed to have been produced by the end of 1967. This 1967 Ghia 450 SS, chassis number 4016, is one of only two known examples factory-finished in yellow and was reportedly used as a show display in Barcelona, Spain, when new. The car benefits from past sympathetic restoration efforts, including a reupholstered black leather interior with yellow piping, veneer trim, and a three-spoke Ferrero steering wheel. It has also been modified with a Wilwood brake booster, Borla mufflers, an Edelbrock carburetor, and a Kenwood Bluetooth head unit. This exceptionally rare and historic Italian sports car is now being offered for auction out of California.

The 450 SS was designed by Carrozzeria Ghia’s Sergio Sartorelli with styling revisions by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The hand-formed semi-monocoque steel bodywork showcases vented front fenders, a hood scoop, quad headlamps, chrome bumpers, and a sloping Kamm tail. This example was reportedly refinished in its original yellow paint color during the early 2000s. It features a black convertible soft top, a driver’s side mirror, front vent windows, polished quad exhaust tips, and 14” Borrani wire wheels with three-eared knockoffs. The seller notes some paint touch-ups on the front end. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin has been redone with black leather upholstery and matching carpets accented by yellow piping on the seats and door panels. Accessories include front bucket seats, individual rear seats, wood veneer center console trim, three-point front seatbelts, roll-up windows, a wood-trimmed Ferrero steering wheel, custom copper gauge bezels, an Equus under-dash temperature gauge, and a Kenwood AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo paired with aftermarket door and trunk speakers. The fuel gauge intermittently provides a delayed reading, and the seller has offered to replace it for the next owner.

This Ghia is equipped with a Chrysler 273ci “Commando” LA V8 rated at 235 HP from the factory. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The engine has been modified with an Edelbrock carburetor and Borla mufflers, and the braking system has been upgraded with a Wilwood brake booster.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Very clean. A rare opportunity for a car that is simple yet stunning.”
