Styled by Italian design firm Carrozzeria Ghia with bodywork by German coachbuilder Karmann, the Karmann Ghia was Volkswagen’s premier sports car from the 1950s throughout the early 1970s and remains one of the most iconic automobiles of all time. This 1966 example is said to have been under the care of the same owner for most of its life and was reportedly discovered by the seller as a remarkably well-preserved barn find. It remains highly original and has undergone maintenance including a carburetor and braking system rebuild. This classic VW is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
In contrast to the Volkswagen Beetle’s machine-welded body with bolt-on fenders, the high-end Karmann Ghia model featured hand-shaped and butt-welded body panels that were manufactured in a more expensive and time-consuming process. This 1966 Coupe is finished in Henna Red with a Pearl White roof and rides on factory 15” slotted chrome wheels with genuine VW-branded hubcaps and Cooper Sport tires. The seller describes the undercarriage to be free of rust while the exterior shows some slight paint fading as well as three very small rust spots on the hood, some oxidation on the chrome front bumper, and chipped paint behind the front license plate. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The black vinyl interior is said to be highly original and features a body-colored dashboard fascia with chrome trim, analog VDO gauges, and vintage solid-state BC/KC radio. An inspection report provided by the seller indicates that some new carpeting has been installed and the dashboard trim has been cleaned and repainted. Patina is present throughout the cabin as well as a tear in the passenger seat and some damaged seat piping. The horn, radio, and interior lights are inoperable, and the functionality of the clock has not been confirmed
This Karmann Ghia is equipped with an air-cooled 1,300cc flat-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. The seller states a recent service was completed which included a carburetor rebuild and tune-up as well as new ignition wires, a distributor cap and rotor, an oil and filter change, and a complete braking system overhaul.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, some documentation, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting the auction for this beautiful, classic Karmann Ghia! All maintenance is up-to-date and ready for its new owner. This VW is completely stock.”

A driving video would have been a real plus as well. The yellow one on Hemmings for $18k is excellent and at over $10k shipped, you will be at that to get this one that good. but if it is all original that will be a plus.
Seller could have done much better with pics and responding to questions.
But I have a 308gtsi from last week to feed.

@twin-grille-roadster That must have been a mistake on the posting. The is in Southern California and has for its life been on the west coast
Under the vehicle details it says the car is in California yet the description says the car is for sale by it's seller out of New Jersey. Where is the car located. Thank you.
