Available for auction is this Superformance Ford GT40 MK1 replica finished in Gulf Racing Blue and Orange. Founded in 1996, Superformance is one the foremost builders of Shelby and Ford GT40 replicas. The Superformance MK1 is a high-quality recreation of the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours winning GT40s and was engineered to such exacting standards that over two-thirds of the rolling chassis parts are interchangeable with those of the original GT40. Titled as a vehicle from 1966, this example (chassis number GT40 P/2239) was originally built in 2011 and acquired by the seller in 2019. It comes equipped with a Bob Olthoff Racing 408ci Windsor V8 stroker, BRM style wheels, a Gurney roof bubble, Bilstein coilovers, Wilwood brakes, and more. This GT40 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida having covered just over 2k miles.

The Superformance GT40 MK1 uses an electro-galvanized steel monocoque chassis and a stamped steel roof along with a fiberglass body. This example is finished in a Gulf Racing Blue and Orange and sports a Gulf Racing livery. The finish is said to remain nicely preserved aside from some bubbling in the fiberglass at the bottom of the front clamshell and rub marks at the top of the driver’s door. Details include an optional “gurney bubble” in the driver’s side roof to accommodate a racing helmet, plexiglass side windows with pop-out vents, aluminum Talbot mirrors, a large single hood scoop insert, and BRM style wheels finished in orange with polished lips and three-eared knock-off hubs. The wheels are dressed in a set of Avon tires from 2011.

The cabin is upholstered in black Alcantara and features factory-style fixed-back racing seats with stainless steel ventilation grommets and Willans safety harnesses. Amenities include a removable three-spoke Motolita steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, dash-mounted rocker switches, GT40-style shift linkage, and a high-capacity air conditioning system.

Power comes from a Bob Olthoff Racing Windsor V8 which has been stroked to 408ci and is said to produce approximately 510 HP. The rear wheels are driven by way of a ZF RBT 5-speed manual transaxle. The engine currently breathes through a center-exit straight pipe exhaust system, and the seller states the original short mufflers will be included in the sale.  The suspension is fully independent and equipped with Bilstein coilover progressive shocks and H&R springs. Braking is handled by vented discs paired with Wilwood calipers at each corner. In preparation for sale, a service was carried out including flushes of the gear oil and brake fluid as well as an oil and filter change.

This sale will include a clean title.

Are what appear to be wire(s) hanging below the exhaust outlets a battery tender connection wires? Speaking of battery where is the battery located? I couldn't seem to spot it trying to answer my own question. Lastly are you including the indoor cover in photo 101?

@jamminman you are correct....it's a typo.... Bob Olthoff was Dennis's father who was a racer. The company Dennis owns and runs yis just called "Olthoff Racing"

  • jamminman (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

I'm not sure who Bob Olthoff is, but Dennis Olthoff is the recognized expert on getting these GT40s on the road and working out the bugs. The Girling reservoirs are notoriously leaky and the photos look like there may be some leakage and corrosion.
