Introduced alongside the Porsche 911 in 1965, the 912 was introduced as an entry-level sports car featuring classic 911 design elements, superior weight distribution, agile handling, and enhanced fuel efficiency. This 1966 Porsche 912, finished in red over a black interior, benefits from a fully balanced engine and rebuilt transmission. It is equipped with a 1720cc Shasta Big Bore Kit, a short shifter, MSD ignition, new poly bushings, reinforced sway bars and torsion bars, a new strut brace, new shocks, and more. An ideal basis for restoration or a custom race car build, this 912 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
Finished in red with white racing livery, this 912 features chrome brightwork, an aftermarket pillar-mounted rearview mirror, a polished exhaust outlet, and Fuchs wheels wrapped in 2015 Hankook tires. The side and rear glass, front bumper, and horn grilles have been removed. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been stripped for weight savings and includes aftermarket bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, a short shifter, and a roll bar. The dashboard and gauge cluster have also been removed. Some spare parts, including the instrumentation, will accompany the sale.
Derived from the 356SC, the 912's air-cooled flat-four engine was the most powerful pushrod motor Porsche had ever produced. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission, with stopping provided by disc brakes at all four corners. The seller reports that the engine has been fully balanced, and the transmission has been rebuilt. Additional upgrades include a Shasta Big Bore Kit increasing the engine displacement to 1720cc, an engine oil baffle pan, new poly bushings, upgraded sway bars and torsion bars, a strut brace, new shocks, an upgraded fuel cell, a short shifter, and MSD ignition. A host of additional 912 parts will accompany the sale.
This sale will include a clean title and additional parts.
The seller would like you to know: “Looking for a classic Porsche project with racing heritage? This 1966 Porsche 912 is well on its way to becoming a serious track machine, requiring only someone with the vision and skills to complete the build. Originally set up as a race car, it features numerous upgrades and modifications. The vehicle needs reassembly, and parts specific to this car are included in the sale.”
