We are pleased to offer this 1966 Porsche 912 presented in Polo Red over a black leatherette interior. Introduced as Porsche’s entry-level sports car in 1965, this 912 model carries the 1600cc flat-four engine used in the 356 SC. Having undergone a complete bare metal restoration only three years ago with approximately 1,500 miles driven since, this 5-speed 1966 example is said to be in excellent overall condition with a number’s matching drivetrain and a collection of documentation. Showing 107k miles on the odometer, this classic Porsche 912 is now being made available for auction by its seller in Massachusetts.
About 3 years ago, Ellis Edwoods Motorsports was commissioned to perform a full bare metal restoration of this 912 in its factory specified color of Polo Red. The finish is stated to be in excellent condition as could be seen in the detailed images provided in the photo gallery. This 912 highlights chrome exterior brightwork as well as factory wheels with chrome hubcaps which come dressed in Vredestein tires.
The black leatherette appointed interior is said to be in beautifully restored condition with all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional. Noteworthy details include a 3-gauge instrument display with a painted dashboard surround, original seat belts, a factory antenna and loudspeaker.
This 912 carries an air cooled 1.6 L flat-four engine sourced from the 356 SC model. The rear wheels are driven by way of a factory optional and numbers matching 5-speed manual transmission. During the time of the restoration 3 years ago, Freed Performance carried out a full engine rebuild with supporting documentation included. Said to be in fantastic running order with barely 1,500 miles driven since the completion of the restoration, this 912 is ready to begin its journey with a new owner.

@wthode the car has no rust or bubbling , the car was strip down to bar metal.

@CEM3 the gauges are the orig. to the car , they where just serviced and clean during the repatriation. a had a few Porsche's over the years, this car is by far the most correct and nicest
one i ever owned.It's a pleasure to drive .Mike
@roblee interesting. My car was the only one that I ever saw with single gauges for the extra two. The one I saw were always the larger gauges with more than one function like the later cars.
@redcoatjames It was always a painted dash , I had asked the previous owner
@CEM3 65-early 66's with three gauges where painted dashes, five gauge cars were black dash cars.
@redcoatjames I’m guessing that you are right. I had a ‘66 just like this and the dash was black. Although I have heard of some with a painted dash. Mine however had 5 gauges but they were singles. An oil pressure on the right side and amp on the left. Both were small single gauges. I’ve never seen this since. Plus mine did have all chrome wheels with the colored Porsche crest disc in the middle rather than plain.
As this is a 1966 model, I'm guessing the painted dash was a restorer wish and NOT original - can you confirm? Do you have any images pre-restoration?
@baico360 I'm glad that the car runs smooth, but what are the carburetors that's important so one can find the correct air cleaners for them and just because it has 1,500 miles answers nothing about its compression?
@roblee i am not sure of the carbs. ,But the car runs very smooth .
As far as the motor ther is only 1500 miles since the motor total rebuilt

@baico360 what are the date stamps on the rims and who is the manufacturer?
Also it was unclear, has the engine had a leak down/ compression test and if so what were the results of each cylinder?

@CEM3 yes stock steelies with chrome hubcaps. These are not leistriz chrome wheels.
@Nbkzl7b no that’s per the description with the listing, not a factory listing. Perhaps you should read the listing and look at the pics. The pics are clear.

You say it has factory chrome wheels but the pics show chrome hub caps only. The wheels are painted
@PK Hi Unfortunately the car is in Nh. with my collection, i live in Ma. I won't
be in Nh until Friday,
and the auction will be over . The engine ,trans, and suspension are in excl. working order.
Motor has no spurting,stalling, over heating or smoking, trans and clutch shifts smooth. the suspension has not rattles,drives straight. far as compression test . the drive train was completely rebuilt 3 years ago , with approximately 1500 miles since. everything seems to work properly like it should with out any issues. I bought the car this year for my 82 year old father, from a man that had the for 13 plus years, he had the car restored
3 years ago , the car has approximately.1500 miles since. my father has been having issues,
at this time i don't think he would get use of the car that it should, since i have a 81 ,Porsche 911 wide body ,i don't have time for both. p.s. the 912 rides much better and a real tight car. a please to drive, thanks Mike

of the motor. the under side is very clean.The car went though an extensive restoration 3
years ago, with only approximately 1500 miles since.
@rhmoritz Sorry i do not have any photos during the restoration .
I has told from previous owner the car had very minimal rust repair.
the paper work i have also shows minimal repair.
Can you provide photos of the car taken prior to the metal restoration to document the extent and scope of the rusted panels?
