We are pleased to offer this 1966 Porsche 911 Coupe finished in Black over a black leatherette interior. Completed at the factory on April 26th 1966, this Coupe is among the earliest Porsche 911s and features a 2.0L flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as a rare factory-optioned Webasto heater. This 911 was acquired by the current owner in 2018 after being refurbished with new paint and several notable services. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this early short-wheelbase 911 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
This 911 came factory finished in Black (6609) and features chromium-plated bumpers and trim, pop-out quarter windows, a driver-side mirror, and gold rear lettering with an angled “911” badge offset to the right of the decklid. Another distinctive characteristic of early Porsche 911s are the silver wiper arms parked on the passenger side of the windshield. The car is said to have been refinished in its original color in October of 2015 followed by the replacement of the front and rear windshields in 2016. The roof, front cowl, and windshield frame were reportedly refinished once again in April of 2017, detailed images are provided in the gallery. The 15” Fuchs wheels come with polished faces and a set of 2021 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires sized 185/70.
The cabin is upholstered in black leatherette with matching carpets and woodgrain trim spanning across the dashboard. The factory-optioned Webasto gas heater has been retained, and an upgraded RetroSound radio has been installed with replacement fittings. The black door panels were replaced in 2019 and the seller reports the speedometer, odometer, and oil temperature gauge were repaired in October of 2017.
The air-cooled 2.0L flat-six engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle sending power to the rear wheels. The replacement engine was sourced from a donor 911 of the same model year and the seller reports the carburetors were overhauled in 2016 along with the installation of new rear spring plate bushings, spark plugs, ignition wires, and a new distributor cap and rotor. The fuel tank and sending unit were replaced in 2017, and the fuel pump was replaced by the current owner in 2020 along with a rebuild of the alternator. Some records are provided for reference in the gallery along with images of the undercarriage and compression test results.
This sale will include a clean title.

Love the video and the car. There is nothing like the real thing!!
Bid in the amount of $95,000
We had some questions on the car not posted in the comments which we replied to and thought we would post here as well.
The car was restored in 2017 and the photos of the paint and body work are in the gallery.
No visible rust on the car outside of surface rust on the exhaust and some suspension pieces.
All of these old cars seem to have some level of rust but again nothing that is in plain sight. The car was recently at Classic Coach Works in Monterey for some service and a general look over and nothing was highlighted there either.
The car is a solid driver. Lights, windows, gauges and stereo are in good working order. We need to check the heater.
The motor was also done in circa 2017, photos in the gallery. We will try to post the receipts we have as well before auction close.
To our recollection most of these early cars didn't come with sway bars.
The shocks look like Koni in the back and unmarked shocks in the front. We will try to get the car back in the air to see if we can see any markings.

@malinea I noticed their price on their website and immediately dropped out because I am not in the market for a six-figure car. (Also assuming the reserve is set quite high)
All I want is an air cooled beast to drive and drive - do not care about matching numbers or other items to maintain its value.
Also on thesamba.com. Previously bid to $72,500 on bringatrailer.com with several comments from people that seem to know these cars.
This car looks very nice to my uneducated eye. 1966 shows the design the way it was originally intended by the Porsche family.
Mohr always finds unique and rare cars. Kudos to them for bringing them to us.

Currently $134500.00
Current bids are a bit of a joke.
Will be interesting to see what the market decides this is worth.
Will wait for the last 5 minutes

Hi everyone,
Wanted to share a startup video on the car. It's recently had the fuel pump and filter replaced as well as the carbs adjusted. Work was performed by Classic Coachworks in Monterey, CA
Have a look here:

Seems like the numbers ought to be higher for such a rare car in this shape, even with a nonoriginal engine.

Incredible car. I painted my 1970 for $18,000…..you stole that quality of work for $6,000 if I read that correctly. Please tell me more about the replacement engine history. Also I wasn’t following , does it have PMO carbs?
Best of luck.
