An original black-plate California car, this 1966 Oldsmobile 442 Pro Touring Coupe is the subject of a custom frame-off restoration showcasing a new LS3 V8 engine paired with a 4L60-E automatic transmission. It features two-stage red paint, chrome trim, an updated gauge cluster, Bluetooth stereo, air conditioning, power steering, Wildwood disc brakes, tubular control arms, sway bars, and more. Built with a focus on drivability and upgraded performance while maintaining true to its classic appearance, this LS3-powered Oldsmobile 442 is now being offered for auction out of California with approximately 12k miles driven since the restoration.

The car is said to have been completely disassembled and block sanded before being refinished in two-stage red paint. New exterior trim and weatherstripping have been installed and the seller notes the body gaps are consistent throughout. Equipment includes chrome bumpers and wheel arch moldings, quad headlamps, fender vents, dual mirrors, twin polished exhaust pipes, and chrome 15” Super Stock-style wheels dressed in Goodyear Eagle GT II tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features a pair of black vinyl bucket seats with a matching rear bench, dashboard, and door panels. A tilting black two-spoke steering wheel is mounted ahead of updated instrumentation with a digital GPS speedometer. Other accessories include black carpets and rubber floor mats, a floor-mounted gear selector, an air conditioning system, a heater, a Bluetooth stereo system, under-dash auxiliary gauges, an Oldsmobile-branded fuel economy gauge, and a tachometer mounted to the left of the instrument cluster. The seller notes the clock has been rebuilt and the trunk is lined with sound-deadening material.

Power comes from a GM LS3 V8 engine with a mild cam, headers, dual exhaust, and an upgraded cooling system. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed GM 4L60-E automatic transmission and stopping power comes from Wilwood disc brakes. The car also features upgraded shock absorbers, tubular control arms, sway bars, and a power-assisted steering rack.

This sale will include a car cover, a battery charger, and a clean title.

I notice in the vid that the speedo increased as you revved the engine and reads 20mph at idle. ?????? The GPS speedo on our boat never operated like that. BTW often when swapping in a modern drivetrain in a classic car, getting a primitive 60 year old gauge to work/mate with the new high-tech transmission is a nightmare. One other question, does the car have cruise control? Again, thanks.
ps. a driving video would help...

Speedo works correctly, it is GPSs and digital, ac and heat work excellent

It appears that the speedometer does not function properly; does it read accurately when driving? Any other issues? A/C work okay? Thanks; nice looking car (us oldies prefer the first gen (pre-'68) muscle cars).

1966... my fave year; especially the L69 tripower version. Looks like a nice build but what's with the speedometer? ...and what is the rearend ratio? Can you post a driving vid? Thanks.

  • tspeedster (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

A couple of questions please. What is the horsepower/torque of the engine? Is it an Anti-spin rear end and what final drive ratio? A/C function and blow cold? Beautiful car that looks very well done!
