Successor to both the iconic 190SL and 300SL roadsters, the Mercedes-Benz W113 SL-Class was introduced in 1963 featuring a new removable hardtop with a distinctive shape that earned the car its “pagoda” moniker. This 1966 example is a 230SL finished in Black over a brown interior, equipped with a 2.3-liter M127 inline-six engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. It was purchased by the seller about 10 years ago and has since been refurbished with new carpeting, seat covers, and a rebuilt transmission. As previously listed on PCARMARKET, this classic Mercedes-Benz is now being offered for auction out of New York.
This W113 SL-Class was introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show featuring new bodywork designed by Béla Barényi, Friedrich Geiger, and Paul Bracq. This example is finished in Black with a matching removable hardtop and cloth convertible roof. Equipment includes chrome bumpers, dual chrome mirrors, polished dual exhaust tips, and polished 15” wheels with painted hubcaps and new Kumho tires. The seller indicates some imperfections including scratches on the hood and rear end. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The brown interior has been refreshed with new carpeting and reupholstered seats by the current owner. Accessories include lap belts, a white two-spoke steering wheel, manual windows, door pockets, a wood center console tray, wood upper dashboard trim, an analog VDO clock, and an inoperable Becker stereo.
Up to 148 HP comes from a 2.3-liter M127 inline-six featuring Bosch mechanical fuel injection and is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. The chassis includes a double-wishbone front suspension, four-wheel coil springs, a front stabilizer bar, front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, and recirculating ball steering. The seller indicates some maintenance was performed under their ownership, including rebuilding the transmission.
This sale will include a car cover and a New York vehicle registration.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this car for 10 years but rarely drive it. It has been stored in my driveway with a cover- included in the sale.”

So sorry @Ioansita I just saw you reported there are no service records. BIG bummer, but thanks for answering and sorry I missed that. The rest of the questions are key please.
Good day @Ioansita , in reading through the comments, there are a number of questions that were never answered I'd love your help with please!
And so sorry for the amount of questions, just coming into this auction and Pagoda collector looking for one and love the color combo.
- Locations of rust. Are there pics you can send of the floor boards? The deck behind the seats with it removed? How is trunk (hard to see with missing spare tire cover), inside wheel wells? All the typical rust locations...
- Rust seems very present/prolific in pics 86-87, do you know how deep it goes or how bad it is?
- Can you send close ups of the top of the door cards? There is some bubbling looking like rust or some imperfections I cannot really see since far away, please.
- Are the front headlight notches present?
- How are the spot welds in the engine bay and throughout the car?
- Also how are books and records from current and previous owners?
- Do you know any history on the car prior to you?
- What is condition of the soft top?
- The close up showing the issue in pic #40..where is that located?
- Has the dash wood been replaced? It seems shinier than normal and is not laying correctly on the sides nor center, so wondering if an EBay replacement kit that did not fit or what the story was there.
- Do all gauges work as they should? Radio? Antenna? Heat and Air dials operate well and all work without any hesitation or catching?
- Clock?
- Do you not have the spare tire nor the truck mat?
Thank you for your help! Real and present and able buyer here.
