Now available for auction is this 1966 Chevrolet C2 Corvette Stingray finished in Ermine White over a black vinyl interior. The second generation of Chevrolet’s Corvette sports car, the C2 was the first to bear the Stingray namesake and debuted a new chassis with improved steering, brakes, and suspension. This example is said to carry its original 427ci V8 paired with a numbers-matching 4-speed manual transmission. It was sold new from Hebdon’s Automotive of Oceanside, CA, and came optioned with a Positraction limited-slip differential, radio delete, and side-exit exhaust pipes. This Stingray remained in California up until 2004 and was eventually acquired by the current owner in 2006. Accompanied by its original California black license plate, this iconic Corvette Stingray is now being offered for auction by its seller out of North Carolina.

The fiberglass bodywork of this C2 Stingray is finished in Ermine White (CC) and features a distinctive wraparound rear window, split chrome front and rear bumpers, a driver’s side-view mirror, rotating headlights, “427 Turbo-Jet” badging on the fenders, and optional side-exit exhaust pipes. Changes for the 1966 model year include an egg-crate front grille, a Corvette emblem on the corner of the hood, and removal of roof-mounted extractor vents seen on earlier models. The seller notes paint cracking in several areas as depicted in the photo gallery. This C2 rides on factory 15” steel wheels with knockoff-style covers and Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires.

The interior is upholstered in black vinyl with matching bucket seats, door panels, and loop carpeting. The cabin of the Stingray carried over the twin-cowl dash style from the original Corvette with a locking passenger-side glove box featuring Corvette Stingray badging. A wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of a 160-MPH speedometer, a 7k-RPM tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, battery amperage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The center stack houses an analog clock while a black vinyl panel covers the space reserved for a radio.  The interior is described to be highly original and well preserved apart from some light scratches on the steering wheel column and a missing windshield wiper control knob.

This C2 Corvette came equipped with a four-barrel carbureted 427ci "Turbo-Jet" V8 which was factory rated at 390 HP and 415 lb.-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission and an optional 3.36 Positraction limited-slip differential. The seller reports both the engine and gearbox to be original to the car, images of the case stampings are provided in the gallery. For the 1966 model year, the C2 Corvette featured four-wheel disc brakes, a coil spring front suspension, and an independent rear suspension with a transverse leaf spring. The car is said to have been regularly maintained over the past several years with routine fluid changes carried out by Automotive International of Charlotte, North Carolina. The seller notes the car to pull slightly left during braking.

This sale will include original sales documents and a clean title. Do not miss your chance to own a well-preserved example of a true American sports car icon.

@jimbailey with this being what appears to be an original radio delete car, it never would have had the ignition shielding since there never was a radio for the ignition to interfere with. I also have a 1966 427 coupe that I’m restoring. It is also a radio delete car. They are somewhat rare since there were only 1.357, or just under 5% built that way for the 1966 model year.

@jimbailey We are a repair shop located about one mile south of I-485 on Tryon. Our web site is www.automotive-international.com As for the gauges, yes, they all work but not sure about the windshield washer pump. I will have to check on monday.

  • Jimbailey (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

What about gauges ? All work? I saw the clock working in the video. What about the windshield washer pump?

  • Jimbailey (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

@gbutler thank you. Very helpful. Where are you in the Charlotte area? I was thinking of making a road trip.

  • gbutler (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@jimbailey We do not have the ignition shields and the glass appears to be original. It has had a repaint at one point in it's past. It looks like it was quite a while ago, and even the advertisement that Pro Team Classic Corvettes put together in 2004 refers to the car being repainted. As for the lights, they work (both low and high beams) and a video showing their operation can be seen on the following link; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfD13bBr7I8

As for the birdcage, we have been unable to detect any rust. We have looked deep into the front of the door jam and the rain gutter area and there is no evidence of rust. However, we are not planning to disassemble the car to verify there is not any rust on any portion of the "birdcage", but as it sits right now we have no reason to believe there is.

  • Jimbailey (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

    I meant “about” the headlights.

  • Jimbailey (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

Tell us agnostic the headlights. Do they roll ?

  • Jimbailey (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

What is the condition of the birdcage?

  • Jimbailey (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

Do you have the ignition shields? How about any repaints or damage history. Original glass all around?
