Now offered for auction is this fully restored 1965 Volkswagen Type 2 T1 Samba 21-Window Bus finished in a classic Green and White color combination. Representing Volkswagen’s most luxurious T1 bus variant, this Samba features a sought-after 21-window configuration as well as a retractable cloth sunroof, front seat walkthrough, and pivot-hinged side doors. It was the subject of a high-quality full restoration during the early 2000s before it was acquired by the current owner in 2013. Having been kept on display as part of a museum and private collection ever since, this beautifully restored 1965 Samba is now being offered for auction out of New York.
The two-tone Green and White finish is said to remain pristine throughout. All exterior trim and brightwork have been painstakingly restored in addition to the wheels. This T1 is characterized by its 21-window layout, retractable cloth sunroof, and pivot-hinged side doors. Other noteworthy features include pop-out front quarter windows, safari front windows, and a roof rack. Images from the restoration are available in the photo gallery.
Inside, the cabin of this T1 has been completely restored with period-correct trim and upholstery. This Samba showcases a highly desirable front seat walkthrough configuration as well as a cabin air vent system. The interior is described to be in exemplary concours condition with all gauges and electrical components remaining fully functional.
The 1600cc 4-cylinder engine has been fully rebuilt and tuned to OEM specifications. Since the current owner’s purchase in 2013, this T1 has been completely refreshed and driven only a few hundred miles while being filled with high-quality ethanol-free VP fuel only. All routine maintenance is up to date and this bus is reported to be in like-new driving condition with only 3916 miles displayed on the odometer. This VW has been thoroughly vetted by an experienced technician and the seller has offered to accommodate a pre-purchase inspection for any interested parties.
The sale of this incredible Samba bus will include keys, a vintage Volkswagen advertisement, and a clean title. A true automotive and cultural icon, this exceptional 21-window VW Samba makes the perfect complement to any world-class car collection.
