Regarded among the most capable and robust off-road vehicles of all time, the 40-Series Land Cruiser was first produced in 1960 and was intended to compete with the American Jeep and British Land Rover. Finished in blue with white accents, this 1965 example is said to have previously undergone a complete restoration at TLC under the care of Jonathan Ward who is the creator of what is now known as ICON4x4 in Van Nuys, California. It was then reportedly sold to a collector in Dubai where it stayed for several years until arriving back in the United States in 2022. This FJ40 is now being offered for auction by the selling dealer out of Minnesota.

This FJ40 has been refinished in blue with a white roof and front grille as part of the previous restoration at TLC under the care of expert builder Jonathan Ward. Equipment includes a removable hard top, dual rearview mirrors, a tow hitch, and a rear-mounted spare tire. It rides on 15” steel wheels with newly mounted Lion Sport A/T tires dated 2022. The seller notes some paint touch-ups have been performed, and additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin was redone with black vinyl upholstery, spanning the front split bench and inward-facing rear jump seats, contrasted with blue-finished surrounds. Interior features include a black three-spoke steering wheel, black-faced instrumentation, roll-up windows, door-mounted grab handles, and a glove box. The seller notes the stereo is currently inoperable.

Power comes from a Toyota F 3.9L inline six-cylinder engine, which drives the rear or all four wheels by way of a column-mounted 3-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case. The restoration is said to have included the installation of an upgraded carburetor, intake, and headers. An oil change upon the seller’s acquisition is reported.

The seller would like you to know: “This is a unique opportunity to own an early icon created by TLC in Van Nuys, California, by builder Jonathan Ward. It is an exciting chance to own a vintage 1965 brass tag Land Cruiser at a fraction of the price that current icons are going for, which is north of $250,000. This truck drives smoothly and rolls down the road with ease, showcasing its classic charm. Owning this Land Cruiser will allow you to enjoy it for years to come and take great pride in its timeless appeal.”

@Singer2020 please see the video of the owner of TLC Icon Johnathan Ward walking around the truck. It went through there shop in 2011.

@Craiguf We only have the video documentation of Johnathon Ward walking around the truck. I’m sure there would be documents at TLC

I love the boxy retro SUV including this one. The old FJ40 is raw, bulletproof and a ton of fun to drive in the snow.
