Now up for auction is this 1965 Porsche 356C Cabriolet finished in Red over a tan leather interior.  Believed by the seller to be have been a lifelong California car, this 1965 example was acquired in 2012 from its longtime previous owner out of San Francisco. This car has received an upgraded 1600cc 616/16 SC engine which was the most powerful pushrod-type motor Porsche had offered for the 356. Records are said to be included dating back to 1981 showing an engine rebuild and a full repaint in the current shade of Red.  Marking the final year of Porsche’s iconic 356 model, this Cabriolet is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Florida.

Under previous ownership in 1997, the car was refinished in the current shade of Red. It features a tan convertible soft top and tonneau cover which were installed by Autos International in 2012. A Porsche SC emblem was also affixed to the rear end to correspond with the upgraded engine. This 356 rides on 15” chromed steel wheels with Porsche-crested hubcaps and 195/ 65 Pirelli P6000 tires dated from 2019.  A matching full-size spare is also included but no longer fits in its designated trunk space when inflated as a larger tire has been mounted.

Originally outfitted with a black interior, this 356 was taken to Autos International of Encinitas, California in 2012 where the cabin was fully redone in the current tan leather upholstery.  The interior is highlighted by a wood-rimmed 3-spoke steering wheel, chrome horn ring, painted dashboard, and red lap belts. There are no speakers or radio and the seller confirms all of the interior and exterior lighting to be fully functional.  The analog clock is reported to occasionally lose time and require a reset. An additional black-rimmed steering wheel is also said to accompany the sale.

This 356 has been upgraded with a 95 HP Type 616/16 1600cc 4-cylinder engine from an SC model.  The rear wheels are driven by a 4-speed manual gearbox. Compared with its predecessors, the 356C offers four-wheel disc brakes, a thicker front anti-roll bar, and softer preloaded rear torsion bars. The seller notes that records will be included dating back to 1981 when the engine was rebuilt.  More recently under the current ownership, an engine-out service was performed including balancing of the flywheel and powder coating of the engine cowl.  An upgraded alloy oil cooler was also installed by Willhoit Auto Restoration, and the seller reports all routine maintenance to have been kept up to date. Images of the underside are provided in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a set of keys, a full-size spare, a jack, and a clean title. With its timeless design and upgraded SC engine, this Porsche 356C Cabriolet is an ideal selection for any enthusiast in search of a vintage motoring experience.

The engine serial number, Picture included, shows that it is a real SC engine. Porsche only made the SC engine in 1964 and 1965. I believe this engine was installed in the mid 70’s by the original owner. The only difference in a C and an SC car from the factory was the engine and the tachometer with the C being red line at 5,500 and the SC 6,000 red line and the additional power. The power is very noticeable as you can see the acceleration in the video from 75mph to 110mph. This is a real 1965 with what appears to be the original underneath body panels. After 10 years of my ownership i have not see any rust bubbles on the body or doors. This car has not been fixed up with makeup to sell. What you see is what it is. I have driven and enjoyed my Porsche as a car, not as a garage fixture.
