Now available is this restored 1965 Porsche 356SC Cabriolet finished in Ruby Red over a black leather interior. The final iteration of the 356 was built for model years 1964 and 1965 with the SC version representing the top-range trim level. It came equipped at the time with state-of-the-art four-wheel disc brakes and a powerful 12-volt electrical charging system. This 1965 Cabriolet, complete with its original numbers matching engine and transmission, has been treasured by its owner for more than 40 years and is now being offered for sale out of Pennsylvania.
After acquiring this Cabriolet in 1981, the current owner had it professionally stripped to bare metal and then refinished in its factory-specified Ruby Red color. Some minor blemishes are depicted in the photo gallery. The car is fitted with factory-optioned chrome wheels and a matching driver’s side mirror. The seller reports that the convertible soft top and plastic rear window remain original.
The black leather seats have been reupholstered and the original square-weave carpet has been replaced with new material. The factory door cards remain in place along with most other original trim pieces. All gauges, including the VDO clock, are original and said to be in proper working order. The Blaupunkt ‘Frankfurt’ AM/FM/SW radio and two speakers are also original to the car and remain fully functional.
Equipped with Solex 40 PII carburetors, the 356SC generated up to 90 HP from the factory. The engine in this SC was rebuilt within the past 500 miles including a ‘Big Bore’ kit using Nickies pistons and cylinders. The distributor was rebuilt by Ed Fall of Vintage Werks, while the carburetors were restored by 356 Carburetor Rescue LLC. The transmission was refurbished by a reputable specialist and fitted with new synchronizers. Period-correct mufflers and tailpipes were installed, and all mechanical systems are said to have been thoroughly checked during a previous restoration. The seller adds that invoices totaling nearly $25k are available detailing the work required to reseal the engine, restore the transmission, and sort the mechanicals.
This sale will include a spare tire, tool kit, maintenance and restoration documents, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.

@RK Just an FYI .... this we believe to be the original top. As you can see by the condition this car was loved and properly stored. It is slightly faded and should be dyed. But there are zero tears or marks of which I am aware. In the 41 years I have owned the car, it rarely saw rain and was never taken out when wet or ever in the snow.

@BarryLe Thanks Barry for your comments. I too am an avid investor and have been for a long time including cars. It can be said, that in uncertain times, those willing to invest in tangible assets, the best in tangible assets, has protection against those other depreciating assets potentially from the same class. It appears to me that commodities are, for the moment, finding their footings. This car too, from my position, is a real asset.
Perhaps you will locate a desperation sale in these times. I would convey what you already know.....chances of an investment grade car being offered under those circumstances would be a rare commodity and you would do well to purchase. We apparently subscribe to different pricing mechanisms. Again thank you for your comments.
@RK : Agreed. you have an exceptional car. Believe me, I know the difference. Given the current state of the economy, the stock market is contracting, inflation is rampant, and interest rates are rising to painful levels. The market for vintage cars is adjusting accordingly. I believe I could increase my offer a little but I believe that I am close to fair market value in these very uncertain times. I am hoping that you will consider adjusting your expectations to these times. I want to buy your 356!
@BarryLe Thank you ....you sound much like myself when it comes to Porsches. It is just my slanted opinion but this is an exceptional car and a collector like yourself should seek such a car. With that said however, it think you will look long before an SC Cab as nice shows itself again at any price point. Thank you for your consideration.
RK: I love your car! My first Porsche was a triple black 1965 356 SC Cab that my dad bought for me as a high school graduation gift. I kept it on the street in Cambridge, MA, right through four years at Harvard and four years at Harvard Med. By then, it was totally rusted out. In the ensuing years, I have owned so many 911's that I can't possibly remember them all. However, I still keep a nice little collection and I would love to add this 356 SC Cab to my stable. I have one spot left in my climate controlled garage at my summer home on Cape Cod. This car has always been special to me. My first Porsche of many over the years. And if it were not for my age and some health issues, it would stay with me. I hope I can answer any questions, those of you with an interest may have. I love this car and it is fully sorted. I sent it out to be fully serviced and made mechanically sound to a very high standard, before I cut her loose. You can be sure the car is sound in everyway. The car is numbers matching with original floors that never had any rust, save the battery box which was property replaced. I hope it finds a new deserving home.
