Up for auction is this 1965 Porsche 356 SC coupe finished in Light Ivory over a black interior.  Marking the final iteration of the iconic Porsche 356, this C model is offered with a sporty 95 HP 1600cc SC engine which is mated to a number’s matching 4-speed manual transmission.  Appearing to be in great original condition with an engine rebuild reportedly carried out in 2014, this 356 SC shows approximately 94k miles on its odometer.  It is now being offered by an estate out of La Mesa, CA and is accompanied by a full independent appraisal and inspection report.

The classic Light Ivory finish on this 356 is said to be in good condition with extremely minimal signs of rust on the body.  A collection of detailed images is provided in the photo gallery along with notes taken from a full private appraisal and inspection.  This 356 SC is equipped with factory chrome 15” wheels with flat hubcaps which are currently dressed in Nixon 165 SR15 tires.

The cabin is upholstered in black with grey square weave carpeting and a white dashboard.  The interior is stated to be in great driver-grade condition with all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional.  Noteworthy details include VDO black face gauges, an AM radio, a dashboard clock, front bucket seats and 2+2 folding rear seats.

This 356 carries the most powerful pushrod engine Porsche had ever produced at the time, the 95 HP 1600cc 4-cylinder SC.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a reported number’s matching type 741/2A 4-speed manual transmission.  Factory performance features include Koni-supplied dampers and four-wheel disc brakes.  Dual Solex 2-barrel carburetors have been installed and a full engine rebuild is said to have been carried out by Deiters in San Diego during 2014.  Reported to start up and run smoothly, this 356 SC is ready to be enjoyed by a new caretaker.

The sale of this 356 will include one key, the original books, a spare tire, service records, a factory workshop manual binder and an assortment of spare parts.  Showing to be in great surviving condition, this SC makes the perfect choice for any 356 aficionado.

@waltmass what I gather from the info. The engine number in photo 105 shows engine number 813148 which is clearly an end of production 1964 and the type is verified correct as a 616/16 SC motor so I would think it’s the correct motor for the car especially taking into consideration that the car looks very honest and unmolested.

Perhaps appraisal company can clarify. Appraisal lists engine number as 813148. To the best of my knowledge 813148 is a 1964 series engine which runs through 813562.

@Maui928 @dno76 This vehicle is being offered by the estate of the previous owner. If you would like to schedule a PPI please use the contact seller button or email us by clicking contact us on the homepage . Thank you

Still no pictures of the underside so I would think a PPI would be a must for any serious bidders. I don’t see this car going any higher without those pictures or an answer to the PPI question. Good luck to all!

Hello, we can add pictures of the undercarriage within the next few days. The Auto is part of an estate sale so there are some details that are unavailable to us. The most recent owner was a prominent Architect who took immaculate care of the car. The paint is indeed the original paint. There is documentation that this is a numbers matching car as reflected in the formal Appraisal. Thank you for your interest!

  • Maui928 (registered bidder) 4 years, 6 monthsago

Can you add undercarriage pictures? Is that original paint? How many owners on this car? Do you have any documentation that this is a numbers matching car?
