Produced from 1965 to 1968, the Mercedes-Benz 230S was the final iteration of the W111 Sedan, combining elegant design with a carbureted 2.3-liter inline-six engine paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Recognized for its opulent interior, advanced structural rigidity, and smooth ride quality, the 230S was among the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz luxury sedans of its era. This inaugural-year example was discovered in a barn on a private estate in Great Falls, Virginia, where it was reportedly stored since the early 1980s. Acquired as a non-running project from the land developer who purchased the property, this barn find is now being offered for auction as an ideal candidate for restoration.

This 230S presents a distinctive Fintail, or Heckflosse, body configuration specific to the W111 chassis from 1959 to 1968. Characteristics include a prominent front grille, chrome trim, chrome bumpers, a driver’s side mirror, vent windows, and a fender-mounted antenna. This example is finished in an off-white shade and displays areas of rust. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features tan upholstery contrasted by a brown dashboard and upper door panels. Equipment includes a white-painted two-spoke steering wheel, manual roll-up windows, front three-point seatbelts, and a push-button stereo. An air conditioning system is not equipped, and wear is present throughout the interior.

Beneath the bonnet lies a carbureted 2.3-liter inline-six engine that was factory-rated at 131 HP and 132 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are connected to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine is currently not running and serves as an excellent candidate for restoration.
