For the 1965 model year, Ford introduced an all-new Galaxie with updated interior and exterior styling and upgraded suspension. This 1965 Galaxie XL 500 Convertible comes finished in blue over a grey leather interior. It is said to have remained under the care of the seller for the last 15 years and to have been maintained with an open checkbook during that time. It features a 390 c.i. V8 engine paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission, wire wheels with knock-off spinners, a heater, roll-up windows, and more. This Galaxie is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada.
In 1965, the Galaxie was restyled with a larger overall design which can be identified by its vertically stacked headlights. This example is finished in blue with a dark blue convertible soft top. The seller notes that the car was refinished in 2000, and shows some rock chips, while the windshield shows minor scratches from the wiper blades. Details include quad headlights, chrome bumpers and trim, a driver-side mirror, dual chrome exhaust outlets, Galaxie 500XL badging, and a set of 15” chrome wire wheels with knock-off spinners. The wheels are dressed in a set of Toyo Extensa all-season tires bearing date codes from 2019. A collection of images can be found in the gallery.
The seating is upholstered in grey leather with dark blue stripes and light blue piping. Dark blue carpets line the floors and woodgrain trim accents the center console, dashboard, and door panels. The interior of the 1965 Galaxie was also restyled with a new instrument panel. Amenities include a heater, roll-up windows, lap belts, a lockable glovebox, and a radio. The seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional.
Power comes from a carbureted 390 c.i. V8 engine which drives the rear wheels by way of 3-speed automatic transmission. Service in preparation for this sale is said to a include a rebuild of the carburetor, new spark plugs, p.c valve, fuel tank, pump, and filter, ignition rotor and cap, ignition wires, front and rear brake shoes, springs, front brake hoses, wheel cylinders, battery, and thermostat. The seller notes that there are no outstanding service items to note at this time.
This sale will include a clean title.
