The third-generation Studebaker was among the final models produced before the company ceased operations in 1966. This 1964 Studebaker Daytona Convertible is powered by a 289ci R1 V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and comes finished in gold with a matching gold and brown interior. Produced at Studebaker’s Hamilton, Ontario plant, it was originally delivered to Stark’s Motor Sales in Toronto, Canada, later imported to the U.S., and purchased by its current owner in 2023. This Daytona is now being offered for auction on dealer consignment out of Minnesota.
For the 1964 model year, renowned industrial designer Brooks Stevens redesigned the Lark body, giving it a modern, refined look. Studebaker replaced the Lark nameplate with models such as the Challenger, Commander, Daytona, and Cruiser. The Daytona features a clean, angular exterior with a prominent front grille, rectangular headlights, and chrome trim. This example is finished in gold with a black power-operated soft top and “Avanti R1-Powered” emblems along the fenders. It rides on white-finished 15” steel wheels with chrome covers and Firestone whitewall radial tires. Detailed images are available in the gallery.
The cabin is outfitted with gold vinyl-upholstered front bucket seats and a matching rear bench, complemented by brown and gold door panels and brown carpets below. Equipment includes a two-tone steering wheel with a chrome semi-circular horn ring, front and rear lap belts, an air conditioning system, and an AM/FM radio.
Power is derived from a 289ci R1 V8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor, aluminum pistons, a 10.25:1 compression ratio, and chrome valve covers, producing a factory-rated 240 horsepower. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The car is also equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by power-assisted drum brakes at all four corners.
This sale will include a clean title.
