The Porsche 904 was developed as a street-legal race car by Porsche and achieved significant success, winning its category in the Manufacturer's World Championship in 1964 and 1965. This Beck 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS replica was commissioned through Special Edition, Inc. in late 2020 and delivered new to the seller in 2023. Finished in red over a black interior, it features a 2.7-liter Porsche flat-six engine with upgraded cams, ported heads, 40mm PMO carburetors, and a 5-speed manual transaxle. The custom build includes optional 17” Coddington aluminum wheels, billet aluminum uprights, four-wheel coilover suspension, ventilated disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, an FIA rear end and door panel, a Kamm tail spoiler, chrome Hella fog lights, rear reflectors, front hood fasteners, painted stripes, air conditioning, 4-point Crow racing harnesses, a leather dashboard, a leather diamond pattern fuel tank cover, and Burberry plaid fabric bucket seats with interchangeable black leather inserts. This no-expense-spared Beck 904 replica is now being offered for auction by its original owner out of Florida.
The fiberglass bodywork was hand-assembled by Special Edition, Inc. of Bremen, Indiana. The exterior is finished in red with painted white racing stripes, removable Gulf livery decals, and racing number markers. Accessories include an FIA rear end and door panel, a rear Kamm tail spoiler, sliding side windows, chrome Hella fog lights, covered LED headlamps, rear reflectors, front hood fasteners, a center hood-mounted fuel filler, fender-mounted chrome mirrors, dual exhaust pipes, and gold Porsche badging. The car rides on 17” Coddington aluminum wheels dressed in Michelin tires from 2022 measuring 225/45 ZR17 at the front and 255/40 ZR17 at the rear. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features a black leather dashboard, door panels, square weave carpeting, and leather bucket seats with Burberry plaid inserts. A set of interchangeable black leather seat inserts accompanies the sale. Accessories include black and red coco floor mats, a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel with a Porsche crest center cap, red 4-point Crow racing harnesses, analog VDO gauges, drilled pedals, and an air conditioning system. The fully upholstered trunk features a diamond-stitched black leather fuel tank cover.
Configured for endurance racing applications with high-compression pistons, the 2.7-liter flat-six uses a 7R engine case from a 1974-1977 Porsche 911. It features sport cams and ported heads to accommodate 40mm PMO carburetors. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transaxle that was rebuilt by Special Edition, Inc. The car features four-wheel coilover suspension with billet aluminum uprights, rack-and-pinion steering, and ventilated disc brakes with four-piston calipers.
This sale will include a clean title and a set of black leather seat inserts.
The seller would like you to know: “This car is considered by many to be one of the most coveted designs ever built; the lines and dimensions are simply amazing. I compare it to the Mercedes 300SL, Ferrari Dino, and the Corvette Split window coupe in its elegance. If you’re looking for a special car to drive or to show, this 904 recreation will grab tons of attention every time it is out of your garage. This is the modern equivalent to the original 904's that cost millions.”

Go Joe!
@jazzyg72 yup, a removable steering wheel can always be installed. The owner is only 5'9" and smaller build so he can get away with not having a removable steering wheel. I'm only 5'7" and am not planning to have one either.

@tee_kay regarding your comment on egress It should be clarified this car does not have a removable steering wheel. Correct?
Bid in the amount of $110,561
I was able to find an original Porsche steering wheel crest and installed it, please take a look at the recent pictures I posted.
@Tgilbert I hope it meets reserve!!!
Bid in the amount of $93,500
As we are nearing the end of this auction I did want to thank everyone that made a Bid and posted Comments. I had around 10,000 views and almost 400 watchers. This car has received a lot of attention here on PCARMARKET. I I would also like to thank everyone that was so helpful and made this easier than I was expecting, this venue is great, it still has the personal touch and you can actually talk to the team unlike other auction sites!
@theiii Beck 904s are dimensionally larger on the inside & outside by a bit, so it is roomier. I've driven a couple of Beck 904s and sat in a number of others. Having a removable steering wheel helps. Pushing up against, lifting & supporting yourself with the frame tube/bar between the seat & door frame helps a lot. Having your other hand on the inner seat bolster does the trick. This greatly aids ingress & egress.

@Tgilbert the paperwork from Special Editions does note work completed on the Transmission Rebuild, the Chain Tensioner kit, Plug Wires, PMO Carb installation and transmission mounts.
@theiii Not trying to be disrespectful but at your weight will be a bit tougher getting out than getting into the car. The seats are adjustable, I about your height and have the seat position all the way forward. To get out I would start by using the steering wheel as leverage and then the door frame.
@jazzyg72 I have the order/build sheet from Special Editions and also the PMO build sheet. I have the Florida Title from the donor car.
this has a LOT more eyeball and is probably a lot more fun to drive than all these 964 restomods
I have a friend that let me try to sit in his real 904. Beautiful car. Needless to say it was very cramped and I didn't fit. What is it like trying to get in and out of this? I am 5'9" about 230 lbs. I worry about space, is there any ability to adjust seats? Thanks
@Tgilbert Are you including any other documentation with the car such as the build sheets, detailed invoices on the engine and transmission work etc?

For those looking, it is relatively inexpensive to have Stated Value insurance, my cost is just over $600 per year with no deductible.
Nice bid VaheA LOL
I have limited space and limited money otherwise I would keep this even if it is just to admire every time I go in and out of my garage, it really as much a piece of art as it is fun to drive. I'm planning to make a large investment in the purchase of a 1955 Mercedes 300 SL Gull Wing. If it does not sell today I'll just keep it and drive it on occasions along with my other cars.
@David23 Thank you for sharing your experience with your 904 GTS, I had a private message asking if I feel comfortable driving the car in city traffic and I can say I have had nothing but fun driving 1,236 miles without any issues. I drove almost 400 miles from Tampa to the Revs Institute to see the two 904's on display, my return back to Tampa was at night and it was great at night too. I just added photos from the Rev's Institute to my pictures, please take a look.

As the owner of Beck GTS #38, I'll chime in how amazing these cars are. They are built carefully with excellent attention to detail, and the support offered by Special Editions has been flawless. I've put over 12,000 enthusiastic miles on mine in less than 3 years, including long multi day rallies, trips to Monterey CA, track days and lots of Southern California canyon carving. The car handles incredibly well, easy to control and predictable at the limit, with great power and braking. I love every minute inside the car. I've spent considerable time tailoring my seat and driving position to fit me really well, and while space is limited inside the cockpit, I'm quite comfortable once driving and can easily drive all day long. Only buy this car if you are comfortable being approached by strangers at gas stations. The car draws attention pretty much everywhere. Current wait for a build is over 4 years, buying a completed, sorted basically fresh Beck 904 is a rare opportunity, and IMO worth far more than the roughly $160-175k it would cost to build one.

Bid in the amount of $80,000
@joe180 Great question, I purchased the donor 914 from the owner Heights Automotive Imports in Tampa. He is one of the finest independent air cooled Porsche specialists. He has worked on all of my collection able Porsche cars. He gave me the history of the engine rebuild as described at the top of this listing (Vehicle Description) in addition to that information Special Editions did the following service to the engine: Chain Tensioner kit, Spark Plug Wire set and transmission mounts. As far as the term Endurance Racing, I would guess it suggests that it was built for 12h or 24h racing.
Can you please provide more detail about when the engine was modified? There’s nothing about rebuild date, who performed the work.
The listing says “configured for endurance racing” - what does that really mean?
Mark K, Lutz
@911airfan Thanks for your kind comment, I'm now wondering who you are, lol. Would you mind sending me a message via Contact Seller? Not too many know about my 62' 356.
I have known the owner for quite some time and know his collection. All are great examples whether replicas or originals and well maintained. He recently acquired a 1962 356, of which may be among the best n the USA.

@Tgilbert wait list is now FIVE years! So it's definitely in the best interest of bidders to win this auction and skip the wait. I put my deposit down in the summer of 2023, and my wait time was 4 years. Half way! But I'm doing a very custom build so I'm happy to wait.
Special Edition is technically not an engine builder but can assist in various ways to install the powertrain. Some customers have custom built engines shipped to Beck and they assist in installing it.
@tee_kay Thank you for sharing you knowledge on the Beck GTS, you seem to have more insight than most on these great builds. I did go on the website and this car as optioned would cost $123,400 not including the engine and drivetrain or the cost of sorting which is an additional $2,500. I don't believe they will accept and install the engine and drivetrain but they will sort it once it's been installed by the purchaser. Additionally one can expect to wait 2-3 years to have a finished GTS ready to be shipped or driven home to the purchaser's location.
Note the current price on the website for a Beck GTS roller is now $110K. This does not include engine or gearbox which can easily add $30-40K+ to the total cost.
@toothdoc it's 42 inches high. Full specs on the Beck website, https://beckspeedster.com/beck-gts/
@VaheA It is titled as a 1964 Beck 2D
The first thing I said to myself was, "Man, I love it, but without air conditioning..." And you did it! What a fantastic car.
When possible, could you provide the overall height? Looking to see if it would fit on the lift.
Bid in the amount of $45,000
@Tgilbert What year make and model is this vehicle titled as in Florida?
Bid in the amount of $29,997
@Chupee this was the most recent Beck 904 on BaT that sold for $172K, https://bringatrailer.com/listing/beck-904-gts/
Bid in the amount of $26,904
@the.car.museum I dotn see a 904 on BAT.. Is that current
? Just curious..
Bid in the amount of $25,904
@JJensen You are correct, First is down and left and Reverse is up and left.
What is the shift pattern with this transmission ? First gear is left and down with Reverse left and up ?
Bid in the amount of $24,904
Bid in the amount of $24,500
I wanted to mention that there is virtually no radiant heat transfer from the engine into the cockpit. The window venturi's blow outside air into the cockpit, so much in fact that I don't use the AC as often as you might think.
@the.car.museum Thank you for your complement on this 904, I see from your BaT profile that your quite a collector of fine cars. Your purchase history on BaT places you at the SERIOUS level on the bidding side, it looks like you seen to win most of the auctions when you bid, I'd like to see your museum.
@badboybuses hey Ric! It's Jeff. 🙂
@the.car.museum they're similar but different. The colour is more eye catching. Let's see how the P Car Market crowd compares to the BaT following. Both low mileage cars (these cars are meant to be driven!) begging for new owners on the open road.
Thank you everyone who has been following this auction, it's nice to see the strong interest in this 904. I have uploaded some additional photos of the custom leather that covers the fuel tank and also the front storage that is accessible forward of the fuel tank.
Bid in the amount of $23,904

@jazzyg72 The first (larger) knob next to the ignition is for the headlights and the smaller knob is to operate the fog lights.
@Tgilbert what do the two unmarked knobs to the right of the ignition key operate?
Bid in the amount of $22,904
@993GT2R The car is titled as a 1964
@tee_kay It’ll be interesting to see how this 904 stacks up against the one listed on BAT. This one’s easily the more appealing car—looks like it belongs in a museum. The color combo and interior are absolutely wild.
What year is on the title?
@Chupee The stripes are painted, I was not considering them to be part of the graphics.
Nice little GTS. I have # 21.
@Chupee Special Edition Inc. can repaint the car if you'd like. They can also do any upgrades or mods.
@Tgilbert Stripes also, as it says PAINTED? thx
@Chupee The graphics are vinyl and can be easily removed if so desired.
@tee_kay I would guess it would have somewhere in the neighborhood of 250-275 hp.
Graphics painted or vinyl?
How much power does the 2.7 produce?
@zollerm Thanks for your question, it weighs around 1,750 lbs.
Bid in the amount of $21,964
Weight of the car? Thank you.

@jazzyg72 There are no security features on the car., with the exception of the doors that will lock with the key. Thank you for your question.
@Tgilbert are there any security features built into the car?
@Geschwindigkeit Oh! You also own a Beck 904? What's your name? Chassis number? Whereabouts are you located? I'm in LA. Please def reach out to Carey to join the email list.
David Keens, chassis #38, was one of the first to convert his 915 to a 916 side shift. California Motorsports (CMS) in Lake Havasu City AZ does the conversion also. They're rebuilding my 901 side shift. The 916 side shift kit, I believe, comes from a single supplier in Germany, but has to be reworked quite a bit to work properly.
The 914/901 was tail shift from 1970-72, then side shift from 1973-76.
@tee_kay Thanks for the explanation regarding the transmissions. I know the 901 and 915 have the tail shift. I was hoping this was one that had a conversion to side shift. Wevo used to make a kit and Patrick Motorsports had one as well. I have a Beck 904 with 915 tail shift and as you say it is a little sloppy. Was hoping to get a lead on how this transmission got the side shift. Forgot all about the 914 trannies. I'll be following up on your group membership.
Bid in the amount of $16,904
@Tgilbert Yes, please reach out to Carey. He's also part of the email list. He can connect you with us! :-)
@tee_kay I have heard of the 904 group, I’ve never known how to join it. I’ll reach out to Carey Hines for more information. I’m a member of several clubs, including the Gull Wing Group, Ford GT Forum, PCA, 356 Registry and Fog (Florida Owners Group) having a special interest car group is extremely valuable and useful, everyone is happy to share information and there is a wealth of knowledge shared among group members. Thanks for mentioning the Beck 904 Owners Group on this listing.
@moorewithwheels the chassis & tub are both made from stainless steel and are inherently resistant to corrosion. Body is fibreglass. No concerns for rust!
@Geschwindigkeit the gearbox is a 901 side shift from later 914s. Earlier 914s used 901 gearboxes straight out of 911s and hence were tail shift since it had to be swapped around for mid engine mounting. Tail shift makes for clunky shifting. Side shift is more accurate & direct. So this is not from a Boxster or Cayman.
Most Beck 904s come equipped with 3.6 engines from 964s or 993s, and a 915 tail shift gearbox. Some owners have modified their 915s into 916 side shifts as found in some 914/6 cars to improve shifting accuracy.
Also note that the 901 gearbox is a dog leg transmission, 1st gear is down and to the left.
I btw am part of the Beck 904 Owners Group Email List. We're a group of about two dozen current, past and in-the-build-queue owners. The seller isn't a member of the group but we'd love to have him join to share his stories & experiences.
A recent Beck 904 sold on BaT for $172K.
I had an interested party inquire about the graphics. All of the graphics can easily be removed and are not harmful to the paint or glass windows.
Sure it does. It's a Ford, it's the right shape, and it goes fast. That, to me, covers all the necessaries.
@Jimbo1907 I do have a 2006 Heritage Ford GT does that count?
Bid in the amount of $15,000
They are beautiful cars, although you could argue that the 904 shape is just as memorable. Thank you. (I don't mean to ignore the 300SL on the lift, either. You just need a GT40 to have all the hits covered.)
@Jimbo1907 You are spot on, it is a 1967 Phantom V
Bid in the amount of $13,000

@moorewithwheels Please excuse my poor editing and grammar: There are no protective coatings on the car.
@moorewithwheels I'm sorry I did not properly answer your question: There is no protective coatings the car.
@restncreate The car has a Clean Florida title listing it as a 1964 Beck, it can be tagged with antique or a Collectable vintage plate with the DMV.
@moorewithwheels Great question: The frame is a tubular steel chassis with an aluminum tub.
Is that an older Phantom behind the 904? Quite an impressive garage, there.
Can I kindly ask how is the car titled?
Does the frame feature any corrosion preventing coating?
@Tgilbert I have uploaded photos of the donor car and some of the build process at Special Editions. Also I had an external oiler cooler installed to accommodate air conditioning.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@Geschwindigkeit I shipped the donor car which was a 914/6 and Special Editions pulled the engine and transmission and for this build. I will upload pictures today showing the donor car along with some production photos of the build stages at Special Editions. The transmission was rebuilt by Special Editions and the engine and transmission was installed and sorted in their shop. I don't believe they will do this scope of work anymore, I think they will ship the completed build and have the new owner install the motor/transmission and then they can ship the car back for final sorting if necessary. Special Editions has a fantastic facility are are well staffed with skilled craftsmen to handle all aspects of production. I had a friend that recommended that I make a visit to see the facilities. Carey Hines gave me a tour and I was so impressed I paid a deposit to get in the build queue which at that time was 2 years. Luckily someone dropped out and I got bumped up closer to the front. I may have had too much coffee this morning, the best answer for your inquiry is that the transmission is the same 5 speed 911 type that was matched to the donor car.
@Hatchdad The interior is surprisingly spacious, the seats are very comfortable and they do adjust front to back. I'm 5'9 and have the my seat all the way forward to fully depress the clutch. It looks like there is 4" left behind the seat to accommodate someone as tall as you.
Bid in the amount of $12,000
Beautiful car. My favorite Porsche. I noticed the transmission shift linkage runs to the bottom left side of the trans. This is not typical of a series 901 or 915, which both come out the back. Is the trans modified or a different series? Boxster or Cayman?
@Tgilbert Oops ..... found the rest of the photos! Still concerned with fit.
Please post more pictures of interior, front and rear undercarriage. Are the seats adjustable? Is interior comfortable for a 6'-3" driver?
@opener The wheels are made by Boyd Coddington Wheels in Long Beach CA they are aluminum wheels manufactured to match the performance and style of the original 904’s
What are the wheels?
@jfort Chuck Beck must have been very entertaining, you're lucky to have had time to be hanging around with him. I have watched him racing, legendary stuff for sure!
Bid in the amount of $2,796
I spent memorable afternoon in Oxford Ohio talking to Mr. Beck. If I recall correctly he had 2 of his 904’s there. I think they had 4 cyl engines. Regarding engines, for what it’s worth, I have a similar 2.7 in my 914-6 and it makes 225 HP. This beautiful car, like my six, will perform and sound great.
Bid in the amount of $1,000
Welcome to this auction, if you have questions I can assist with answers, this is a fantastic car, I hope you enjoy taking a look at the pictures posted.
