Available for auction is this 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster Replica finished in Ivory over a tan interior. Created by the original Vintage Speedsters company in California, this 356 replica was built in 2002 and purchased by a collector from the Washington D.C. area. It was later acquired by the current owner in 2004 and has been driven very sparingly ever since while garage-kept and treated to routine maintenance. Registered as a 1964 Volkswagen and featuring an air-cooled flat-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox, this Speedster is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York showing just over 5k miles on the odometer.

The handcrafted fiberglass bodywork is finished in Ivory with a black convertible soft top and matching boot cover. Visual highlights include Porsche 1600 Super Speedster badging, a single driver-side mirror, chrome brightwork, and 15" slotted wheels with chrome hubcaps and Kelly Metric Radial tires. A small dent is noted on the chrome passenger door molding, additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is appointed with black carpeting and tan leather upholstery covering the dashboard, door panels, and bucket seats. Features include brown Coco floor mats, a wooden Porsche crested shift knob, black lap belts, a genuine Nardi wood steering wheel, a stereo system, and 356-style instrument gauges with green markings.

Power comes from a 1600cc air-cooled flat-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Vintage Speedsters uses a restored Volkswagen floor pan which is shortened and mated to a custom fabricated 2"×4" 11-gauge steel frame. The result is a rigid structure that retains the original VW pan design and includes a slightly offset steering wheel as the original Speedster did. A killswitch has been installed and the engine is claimed to produce as much as 60 HP. The seller confirms annual oil and filter services have been performed throughout their ownership.

This sale will include a spare tire, removable side windows, a black passenger seat tonneau cover, and a transferable New York registration.

@Speedshopper Odometer works fine and was never replaced. The wear on the carpet is minimal and perhaps the picture is not conveying its real shape. Sorry for that.

I realize this replica is 20 years old now, but the wear in the carpet around the pedals does not make sense to me for a car that's only been driven 5,033 miles. In the 18 years that you've owned this car, has the odometer ever stopped working or been replaced?

@seller, confused by some contradictory statements on the engine. 30 or 60 hp? 1100 or 1600 cc? Can you please confirm again? Thanks.

What happened to the first two bids of $1000.00 then $10,000 three days ago. Now the bid is $11,000 six minutes ago? Current high bid: $11,000? Did I miss something? $22,000

@IIIHRBIII The bid has been retracted. You may now make the correct bid.

A computer glitch turned my 11 thousand dollar bid into 1,111,111.00 bid and then submitted it. It’s not a valid bid.

  • oliv2022 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Hi everyone - There was a typo previously on the description of the engine. It is a 1600 cc engine with 60 HP. The car also comes with a black passenger side tonneau cover when used as a convertible.

  • oliv2022 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@wonk Hi - No it was not. Purchased directly from a car collector in DC who purchased it directly from Vintage Speedsters

  • wonk (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

hi oliver. did you buy this from a dealer at the jersey shore?

  • oliv2022 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@mhconley Yes it is a typo sorry. Please read 30 HP.

  • oliv2022 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@IIIHRBIII Yes it is registered as a 1964 VW chassis.

  • IIIHRBIII (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Is it registered as a VW Beatle and what year? I miss my 67.

  • mhconley 2 years, 9 monthsago

Is there a typo in the ad or did you really find a way to get 130 HP from an 1100cc engine?

Welcome to this auction and thank you for your interest. I am happy to answer any questions.
This is a fantastic car and I am sad to see it go but (older) life goes on.
Best of luck to anyone interested.
    Cheers,
    Oliver
