The final evolution of Porsche’s original sports car, the 356C was introduced for the 1964 model year featuring four-wheel disc brakes, a refined suspension, and reinforced synchronizer rings for its 4-speed manual gearbox. This model featured a change from the standard 60 HP engine to a mid-level 1600 Super variant with 75 HP as the entry-level engine option. This inaugural year example has been stripped to bare metal before a meticulous restoration in 2012, followed by an engine and transmission rebuild approximately 5k miles ago. Owned by a single family since 1964, this 356C Cabriolet is finished in white over custom red leather and is now available for auction out of Illinois.
As part of the restoration in 2012, this example was professionally refinished in white with a black cabriolet soft top. Equipment includes a decklid with twin engine grilles, chrome bumpers with integrated rear exhaust outlets, a polished driver’s side mirror, gold model lettering, and 15” slotted steel wheels with chrome Porsche-crested hubcaps. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been customized with red full leather upholstery with matching square weave carpeting. Accessories include a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, folding rear seatbacks, front lap belts, manual window cranks, analog VDO gauges, a Blaupunkt radio, a quartz clock, a heater, and a locking glovebox. The seller reports the original gauges were refurbished.
Up to 75 HP comes from an air-cooled 1,582cc flat-four engine with dual Zenith carburetors. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transaxle and the chassis includes four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes at each corner. The seller states that the engine and transmission underwent a complete rebuild approximately 5k miles ago, and the casing numbers match. Additionally, an Abarth muffler has been fitted and no outstanding maintenance items have been reported.
This sale will include a clean title and an owner’s manual.
The seller would like you to know: "One family ownership since 1964. The car was bought brand new by the current owner's uncle in 1964, and we have a copy of the original title. The current owner purchased the car from the uncle in 2004 and commissioned a complete restoration by an excellent 356 craftsman, which was completed in 2012. The engine and transmission were rebuilt by '356 Werks.' This numbers-matching car has been repainted in its original color and features a full red leather interior, a new top, refurbished original gauges, an Abarth muffler, stock wheels powder-coated with Firestone radials, and original disc brakes redone. It also comes with the owner's manual. The car is show quality."

Do you have any pictures or invoices of the restoration and /or service records that was done on the car over the years that you can post?
Hi Francaj To my knowledge the car as never in an accident At the time of restoration the car was stipped to bare metal and was completely redone The floors, longitudinals, closing panels and battery box also was redone. The engine and trans were rebuilt the upholstery is all new red leather This is like a brand new 356. cwsconsulting
Has the car been in any accidents? I know it was repainted but are you able to get paint meter readings?
Bid in the amount of $30,000
@Pormog Hi Pormog the battery box, floor pan and longitudinals were all replaced during the restoration. The workmanship was excellent looks like a new car underneath. cwsconsulting
The underside looks good but during the restoration what, if any body rust was addressed and what, if any work was done to the floor pan and battery box?
Bid in the amount of $26,000
cwsconsulting: Since the current owner ordered the restoration, he should have all the receipts from the work. Please post these receipts.
Bid in the amount of $25,000
Wow. Beautiful!!! Looks like someone's kids or grandkids are just not into cars. Otherwise, it would stay.
