Finished in burgundy with a light beige roof, this 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Coupe was equipped with a rebuilt 6.3-liter M100 V8 engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission about 23 years ago along with an upgraded rear end from a 4.5-liter model. It was acquired by the seller in August 2021 and recently received a newly upholstered burgundy red leather interior. With classic Mercedes-Benz styling and upgraded V8 power, this W111 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
The W111 Coupe was designed by Paul Bracq and featured a more subtle tailfin rear end than its four-door counterpart. This 1964 example was refinished in burgundy with a contrasting light beige roof under prior ownership. Chrome trim spans the bumpers, rockers, wheel arches, window surrounds, door handles, and front grille. Other equipment includes a chrome driver’s side mirror, front driving lamps, dual tailpipes, a rear “6.3” badge, a fender-mounted antenna, and silver 14” Bundt alloy wheels. New Pirelli tires were mounted in 2018 and portions of the chrome brightwork were reportedly re-plated. The seller adds that new door, headlight, and taillight seals have been installed as well. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
In January 2024, the interior was redone with new burgundy leather upholstery. The wooden dashboard trim has been refreshed with a gloss finish, and the carpets, package tray, and floor mats were replaced upon the owner’s acquisition. Accessories include a two-spoke steering wheel with a black leather cover, manual window cranks, a locking glovebox, an analog clock, VDO gauges, a heater, a manual sunroof, and an aftermarket Bluetooth receiver. Instrumentation includes a 210-km/h speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer, the latter of which was repaired in 2018. The seller notes the speedometer is not accurate. The later Becker Grand Prix radio was rebuilt in 2018. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
Under prior ownership, a 6.3-liter M100 V8 engine was rebuilt and installed in place of the factory inline-six. The engine is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and the rear end of a 4.5-liter model. The front suspension was reportedly modified at the time of the engine installation to accommodate the heavier V8, and the transplant necessitated the use of different Mercedes-Benz engine mounts along with the engine offset and an enlarged transmission tunnel. The fuel injection pump was rebuilt and recalibrated, and additional work included installing new cold start valves and relays, new fuel lines, a new fuel filter, new oil cooler hoses, and fresh power steering pump seals. All new shocks were installed in 2013 along with a refresh of the braking system. A new starter, engine mounts, and driveshaft flex disc were also installed in 2018 as well as new rear brake pads and hoses.
This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “The owner drives it on Sundays in Malibu and it is a wonderful drive.”

Hello all good luck with bidding. This car has been one of my favorite drivers over the past few years. Its been gone through, is reliable and pulls real strong as it should. The car presents itself extremely well and gets compliments everywhere i go. Sad to let her go, but hope she makes it to a nice collection and in the hands of someone ready to enjoy her.
One note is bluetooth was added to the period correct Becker car stereo.
